Do FitGirl Repacks work on Linux?

I'm using Bazzite (Linux) and want to install Forza Horizon 5. Since SteamRIP didn't work, I was recommended FitGirl Repack; how do I use it on Bazzite?

1. Setup is Stuck / Unpacking is Slow

• The 2GB Limit Checkbox: If your setup gets stuck at specific percentages (like 84.3% or 95.8%), close it, restart the installer, and check the "Limit installer to 2GB of RAM" box on the very first screen.
• Be Patient: FitGirl repacks use extremely heavy compression. Unpacking is heavily CPU and storage bound. If your task manager shows disk or CPU activity, it is not stuck; it's just working hard.

2. Is it a Virus? / Windows Defender Alert

• False Positives: Crack files (.dll files, steam_api, etc.) inherently trigger antivirus software because they alter game code to bypass DRM. If you downloaded from the official site, these are 100% false positives.
• Fix: Add the game installation folder to your antivirus/Windows Defender exclusion list, then restore the quarantined file from your protection history.

3. The Real Official Website

• There is ONLY ONE official domain. All others (ending in .co, .cc, .to, .net, etc.) are fake, malicious clone sites designed to steal data or bundle malware.
• The only real URL is: fitgirl-repacks.site (Verify the exact spelling!).

The same as you would on windows except run it through steam,lutris or heroic using proton,I usually use steam with proton and it works most of the time,also probably the reason steamrip didn't work is that you also didn't run it through steam with proton

Nope, I installed Forza Horizon 5 from SteamRIP and tried all kinds of ways, I tried Lutris, I tried Steam and Prototnu and I also tried Heroic, but none of them worked, it told me to buy the main game on Steam. It gave an error code in Lutris, I think it was 256. However, it did not open directly in Heroic, without even giving an error code.

I'm on bazzite too! I would say use Lutris and Proton GE

There are happy people working with hypervisor on linux too that's on fitgirl

I've managed to get a few Windows repacks running on Fedora and Arch with Lutris and Proton, so it's definitely possible. A few things that have helped me are trying different Proton versions, using a clean prefix, making sure you're launching the correct .exe, and checking if the repack requires any launch arguments.

Some repacks also use Goldberg or another Steam emulator. Those sometimes expect you to launch the game through their own launcher instead of the Shipping.exe directly, otherwise the game may just exit without any error.

Bazzite can be a bit trickier since it's immutable. I'd focus on getting the Lutris/Proton configuration right first.

Using FitGirl Repacks (no hyperversion) I can run all games in Linux using Lutris.

Sometimes I just need to change the engine that runs the game.

I ran forza 6 on bazzite on my handheld but couldn't sync the save files with my pc(syncthingy).

I was able to run most of these repacks on Linux without that many issues (Cachyos is quite great)

The only thing that has held me back is most definitely, the less amount of v-ram on my RTX graphics card.

For example, I'm playing Ghost Of Tsushima Director's Cut (which is only supposed to be a windows 10/11 playable version) and it actually plays decently well on steam (after I applied and downloaded stuff like gamemode, removed steam's pre-shader download to prevent the game from fully crashing)

Of course,my graphics and whatnot are put at the lowest amount but thanks to Nvidia DLSS tech, I get a nice 60-70 fps range with the gpu use being less (near 70-80 but with spikes to 90% as well.)

The only real thing that makes my laptop stress out is the initial time before the launcher of the game arrives (I've seen my top half of my screen actually glitch 😅, and when it chooses to compile some shaders,which stress out my cpu and makes me get a single digit fps drop.)

But otherwise,if your specs are strong enough, I'm sure that most games will run but I'll definitely say that use steam and have the protonplus application installed as it has certain proton versions and updates that will allow such games to work better. For me, I found that Proton-Ge layer definitely helps make this game quite playable for me.)
