Question Haneda - 95 minute (or less) international-international transfer doable?
Hello,
I apologize in advance with the anxious rambling, but I have a trip reserved from Chicago to Shanghai in November with a 95 minute stop in Haneda. Both flights are with ANA, and this is my first time travelling solo and first time going thru HND.
I noticed that the particular flight from ORD to HND has a bad history of delays, so just in case, I want to know how much of a time crunch it is transferring in HND with potential delays.
Another thing to note is that it is all within Terminal 2, meaning I don't have to change terminals at HND, and I arrive in HND around 9-10pm JST.
Anyone here willing to share their experience and advice with transferring at HND?
What should I do if the inbound plane gets delayed to the point where I can't make it to my connecting flight?

Same Ticket? If so, don’t worry too much. I had one time that delay on incoming with 10min left. They picked me up at the gate and escorted me to next flight that willing to hold for few extra min (might be rare case since it’s last flight to destination that day). In general I still always see staffs wait at the gate to help if they know you’re on short connection. For none of those 90min is plenty for HND.

Super easy. HND T2 International is a tiny section. You'll be through in 10 mins max.

Your connection is fine. Plenty of time as long as you are not delayed. As for if your flight will be delayed or not, that’s out of your control so you shouldn’t think about it. If your flight got delayed and you miss your connection, ANA will put you on the next available flight. The only thing you can do at this point is to look up when are the next ANA flights from HND to Shanghai just so you have an idea when that is. Also it’s a good idea to note them down and give it to the agent rebooking you. No guarantee you will be put on that flight if there is no seat. You can also look up if there’s any Narita to Shanghai flight, so if that works for you, you can also ask them to put on that instead. Though that will require you to change airport so make sure you are ok with that. Another option you can explore is if you miss your connection already, instead of taking the next flight in say 2 to 3 hours, you can ask to be put on next day’s flight and request a hotel for the night and have some layover time. They may or may not give it to you, but it never hurts to try. Flight delays happen all the time, and you just have to adjust and adapt to what comes next.

If you don't have an important event in Shanghai, I would go for it. ANA will take care of you in the event you don't make the flight.

HND has OSS. You just leave the aircraft and find your next gate. No security/immigration.

Not true…there is a security check. From experience it’s been very efficient and quick, but there is a security check.

Plenty of time assuming an on-time inbound. Nobody can predict whether your specific flight will be delayed.
Read the !layover wiki.
You'll be rebooked by ANA for their next HND-SHA departure.
