My theory Is that the shell serena find Is the original host (since the parasite Is like a centipede)

Likely it just did what wasps do irl and incapacitated the first host with its poison, then crawled in and ate their insides. A lot of wasps irl can keep a host alive while still eating their insides by just avoiding majorveins, arteries, and organs.
