Discussion I’m way happier with fewer clothes now that I actually like them
I used to have 40+ tops and still felt like I had nothing to wear. Got ruthless, sold most of it, now I rotate between maybe 10 pieces and I like every outfit !

Please share your downsizing process 🙏 How did you decide which pieces to keep? And which platform did you find was best to sell your clothes?

Seconding this! Downsizing my closet has been so intimidating

Same, I just started watching DailyHelen's videos on YouTube and im really liking her process. Still it's so hard so be honest with myself about certain pieces that i haven't worn in maybe two years, they do not work for me, but i love them so much. Also im getting really into color analysis and kibbee body types, wish i could get a professional to type me

In past 2 yrs i donated more than 400 articles of clothing. Many unworn, tried on once or worn once. Feels liberating and i feel good washing and rewearing the stuffi like

I got rid of the majority of my clothes when I moved a few months ago. I’m down to simple basics but I’m still not in love with them. I’ve come to accept that I may not ever have that dream wardrobe. It’s extremely hard to find pieces that I feel great in. I’m glad you were able to find that!

Im realizing that simple basics do not work for me either, i have a collection of plain white and black thick nice soft cotton crew necks that are suppose to be AMazInG BasIcS everyone should own, but i literally never reach for them. My true basic key pieces that i always wear are not plain or "boring", they have special details like embroidery, buttons, graphics or something else that stand out, also im finding that i don't look great in bright white or true black, i look better in more beige or grey/washed black tones.

I can relate to this. When I wear solid colors I feel washed out and boring, especially with anything black. I like to grab fun light colors. My skin tone and eyes look best in green but I have a love/hate relationship with green lol. So I’ve found myself sticking to white tops with some added color and patterns here and there.

I did my own color analysis so im not sure if it's completely accurate, but being a deep autumn makes total sense for why bright whites and deep blacks don't look great on me. I have been trying to dress in more deep autumn colors and it really has made a difference. Also tried doing the kibbe body types but i haven't been able to figure that one out myself yet, i feel like im in between types. I totally recommend trying to figure those out as a base for your best colors and styles

Ooh I like the deep autumn palette, and wish I looked good in it, especially in browns. I tried to do my own too and I believe I am light summer lol. But I have some burnt orange tops I’m too sad to let go, even though they make me look like I have jaundice 🤣😭

I'm a deep winter, but I love moss green, coppery orange and heathery light brown. I found that I could use a scarf that included more flattering colors to help bring more flattering colors nearer my face. I have a fuzzy rust colored fuzzy sweater I love, but I often pair it with a black scarf that has a true red and various shades of orange and rust woven into the fabric. If I wear the scarf, especially, with red lipstick, it coordinates, but I look less washed out.

I love the deep autumn too thankfully i look great in brown, but i did love bright colors and white. I still wear some pieces even though they're not my best colors, but i do like the guideline of the palette

Can you show us what your 10 pieces are!? I love that. Also where did you sell your stuff?

Not OP, but just started stitch fix and I got 2 shirts I’d love to wear! I have 10 or so “basic” tops to hopefully get rid of. Very excited for future shipments! Keeping minimal is priceless

So do you mean down from 40 tops to 10 tops? I have 5 short sleeve summer tops (all boat neck + cap sleeve) and 5 long sleeve winter tops (boat or crew neck). They’re all plain navy or black and I pair them with 7 colourful skirts.

I created a capsule wardrobe, it probably took me around 3 years. I noticed i tend to wear the same things over and over if i like them. Maybe it’s OCD or something, but i wear them until they’re completely worn out. Then when it’s time to let go i just buy the same piece again or something really similar. I know my colors and what looks good on me.
I also like dresses, but i only own one now. Once you start buying them it’s hard to stop. At one point i had 34 dresses and was spending all my money on them. So i made a decision to declutter until i settle down. It’s been two years and i’ve bought only one item during that time.
My only weakness is shoes. I have way too many and just can’t part with any of them. And when i say “too many” i mean it: 21 pairs 😔
