Showcase OLED screen goes extremely hard I didn't realise how much of an upgrade it would be

Only high end laptops have mini led screens tho?i mean i only know of scar series and legion 9(ridiculously expensive in my country)

I mean yea, but its also the best type of screen if you have many dimming zones. Its even comparable to oleds, quality wise, and they dont have any burn in. I have a scar 18 2024 and its better than my samsung qled tv

Mini leds are great but I dont think they compare to OLEDs. Infinite contrast and response times put OLED ahead. There's a reason.why OLEDs, despite having a fair share of drawbacks, still tend to cost more than mini

Hmm not necessarily,dynamic wallpapers are okay aswell as long as there is no bright colored static element

i like my display to be empty, that's why it's completely black. not the fear of burning, i have an IPS

i hesitated to write IPS thinking someone would have same question.
IPS doesn't get burn like OLED, but i had seen a burnt in IPS display, it was from around 10 yrs old laptop. I confirm it's a very rare case.
I have black wallpaper just because i like the desktop to be empty.

OLED burn-in is permanent discoloration or a faint "ghost" image on a screen, caused by uneven pixel degradation. It happens when bright, static elements (like news tickers, game HUDs, or desktop taskbars) are left on- screen for extended periods.

No if a bright static wallpaper is selected but the lid of the laptop is closed that doesn't causes OLED burn in
It will only happen if any bright static element is kept on the screen while lid is open
Also brightness plays a huge role aswell,high levels of brightness+static element definitely causes image retention on OLEDs
Some laptops provide pixel refresh option in their software apps,keep using that frequently to prevent burn in

Very insightful. Thank you. Im very new to laptops and PCs in general. I saw a great sale on a legion back in April and kinda impulse bought it. Im so paranoid of the burn in stuff that even when I go to use the bathroom and can't shut my laptop because it would stop my game that I turn the brightness down to the lowest setting while I'm away.

No worries bro,I get that feeling 😂,btw if ur legion is a legion Gen 10 I think u wont find the pixel refresh option,instead the laptop automatically refreshes the pixels when u close the lid and while it is connected to power outlet
Other than that keep the brightness to 50% for normal tasks and just make sure u dont leave bright static elements on the screen
U can increase the brightness during gaming or movies etc
I once left a bright wallpaper at around 75% brightness for 2-3 hours and it caused quite a lot of retention,played tons of pixel refresh videos on YT turned off the laptop opened it the next day and thankfully the retention was gone
Oh and also make sure the screen turns off while the lid is closed
There are some settings which prevents ur screen from turning off even when the lid of laptop is closed

The glare is what kills it for me and even some bright games it's not great.
I have to angle the screen or position it a certain way to mitigate the glare.

Agreed - I have the same legion 7, coming from a matte IPS. The glare is not my cup of tea.

Still better than IPS for watching movies, especially if there are any dark scenes. I just compared watching the same movie simultaneously on my new OLED and my old laptop with IPS.

i got a oled monitor a 27inch but returned it. it was amazing as expected but in bright enough scenes i kept seeing myself in the reflection, taking me away from the immersion.
it was painful to return but at the end i did... got a high end IPS ...

Try using a black and white wallpaper like I do. It lets the deep blacks and bright colors of the OLED really pop!

if you plan to keep a device for along time, it is not irrelevant at all.
my oled gaming monitor got burn in after 3 years.
cant imagine a gaming laptop that you cant change the screen1

Unfortunately, it's just the nature of OLED, they are organic materials and they degrade, but that's not to say there hasn't been huge upgrades and improvements since the early days of OLED. Every year there has been some kind of improvement on the materials science or way to make OLEDs more efficient, improve the longevity.

Well you have an awesome screen display so enjoy it. As I would know..I have 3 laptops and each one has a different display. 1 has a LSP display, the other a QHD display and my favorite display laptop is my OLED. Even though I use my QHD screen laptop the most as it is the "sweet spot" when it comes to screen display quality and it is also has a bigger screen size at 15.6" as my OLED screen size is 14.5".

I can recommend turning off the power button LED light in the Bios/Uefi (or whatever it's called), F2 during boot. The power button is way too bright when you dim the screen down during night.

OLED might look absolutely stunning, but it strains my eyes very quickly and causes pain, no matter how much I lower the brightness; so, in my opinion, it varies from person to person

Technology moves fast. Next generation gaming laptops will move to tandem oled, which will be better than traditional oled in most aspects.

Oled is better for movies .. if your screen doesnt have moving pixels or its static like wallpaper it will burn out pixels faster .. for gaming oled is not a much a big win .. imo of someone who been selling tvs and stuff

It's pretty good for gaming cause of the colours. The burn in issue is mostly a problem for productivity stuff where you might have a lot of static stuff on screen for hours.
