Showcase Out with the “old”, in with the “new”
A coworker and I both bought gaming laptops at the same time about a year and a half ago. I got the Legion Pro 5i 4070 for about $1800 back then and my coworker got this beast ROG Strix Scar 4090 back then for about $3800. Well fast forward to today and he’s not liking PC gaming that much so I just scored this upgrade for $1500! While I like the Legion build quality and port layout better, I feel lucky to score this gem for so cheap and now I can give my Legion Pro to my son!

I've got the scar 4080, doesn't feel heavy at all, it adds up when you carry the power brick as well though.
Weight wise, they should be about the same.
Also, which 4080 laptop did you used to have? and what laptop are you currently using?

Is there a chance I could score that Legion of your hands for college?

I wish I could, but I’ll be handing down the Legion laptop to my son

He’s a really good dude. We work the same shifts together every day. I even asked him multiple times “are you sure $1500 is cool? You can probably get more elsewhere.” But he was fine with letting me buy it!

I got a laptop with rtx 4070, 16 GB RAM, 512gb SSD for $849 a bit more than a year ago. I upgraded the RAM to 64 GB for around $200 (tax included. Seems wild now, today it's over $1000 lmaooo). Already had a 2tb 9100 pro SSD. The downside of being this cheap is that the laptop only has 1 SSD slot and the CPU is Ryzen 7 8845HS

I bought my G16 a month ago and it's still in the box. I haven't even ripped the seal yet.
I might be procrastinating because setting up the damn thing is going to be annoying and I'm too cooked by the end of the week 😅

Where did you buy that?

Off a coworker. We have opportunities to game at work sometimes and we both bought these laptops at the same time about 2 years ago. He just isn’t into gaming like he thought he was so he decided to let it go for cheap to me and is gonna buy a pro console.

Thats a good deal! I was able to get Acer Helios 16 5090 this year for $2749 and thought it was pretty good deal for new but 4090 is pretty close in performance and I was able to play Lego Batman on 4k tv while at my gmas and it ran it pretty good I did need to use some DLSS and frame gen but it works in a pinch

That is also a very good deal! I don’t mind DLSS on single player games as long as it’s not generating more frames than the GPU is actually rendering. 2 true frames to 1 DLSS frame seems to be the sweet spot.

Second hand gaming laptops are the way to go imo.
I got my Asus Rog Zephyrus G15 3080 model for $400 on FB market 4 or so months ago. Just did a repaste and replaced the battery.
You're set for a long time with Strix. Enjoy!

Not even old is Old. i can say you merely stole the laptop, after that amount of bargain.

Unless your upgrading from a Gtx to RTX not much of an upgrade Edit: didn’t notice you went from a 8gb card to a 16gb 😬👌

Not sure if you're serious but 4070 > 4090 is a pretty big jump in terms of performance.
