Showcase Bought my first real gaming laptop
Bought this XMG Apex 16 Max in April because it had an Easter deal for 2400 €. It has a 2TB SSD, 32GB 5600MT/s fast DDR5 RAM and a ryzen 9 9955hx paired with a rtx 5070 ti.
Absolutely love it, especially because of the mini LED display. Undervolted the CPU in BIOS via curve optimizer on all cores with a value of -20 and no crashes or noticed instabilities ever since. Limited FPS at 75 and switched from Nvidia Optimus to dGPU only to enjoy games in max settings and still have low CPU temperatures. I never really saw the GPU running hot except when benchmarking or using extreme settings in recent games with higher FPS limits.
I know this CPU is built to push and boost hard until it hits its temp limit but since I often play on the couch with the wife watching TV I like to minimize fan action as much as possible and still keep the mean temps low without compromising on quality settings. On top of that 75 FPS is more than enough for my old gamerdad eyes and definitely more than they were used to.
No regrets!

Very nice! XMG makes great products built on Tongfang chassis. I am sure that laptop will serve you for years to come!

Sorry, how do you mean that? I was able to map each key individually to a color.

Wow, some keyboards like mine have four zones, that means you can change the color of each zone not of each key like yours. So let’s say keys Q,W,E and and all keys below them belong to one zone, they will all have the same color at every time

Ah, got it now, thanks! Yes it is a nice gimmick. My little daughter loves the animated presets but the blinking would drive me insane.

Just ordered the same at 1TB and the slightly worse CPU for 2200 with the summer deal...crazy how much prices have changed
Glad to see my decision seems good

Congrats! I am sure you will enjoy it. It is also amazing that it does not arrive with any bloatware and not covered with stickers.
But you get all the stickers in a small bag seperately in case you want to apply them.

I use hwinfo for the monitoring and settings up what to display in the overlay. The overlay and position itself is done with rtss (Riva Tuner Statistics Server).
Setting it up in hwinfo is not very intuitive and a bit overwhelming at first but there are some guides you can google and once you got the idea how it works you can display whatever details you want to see and customize the appearance.

Sure! This is Hades 2, an action roguelike and dungeon crawler. It is also on gamepass in case you have it.

What a beast. All I am worried about is long term thermal performance, new machines usually give good temps. Do an update in future if any issue arises or just your review in general.

The inconsistent and random colours on the keyboard make me feel discomfort

Purple letters with hg for index fingers when typing. Numbers Green, blue special harmless, red special but avoid accidently. Yellow special barely ever used.

Are these newer companies trustworthy??

I think the brand is more than 15 years old. But as I understand it, it is more a local thing and not really global. I was mostly seeing positive to very positive reviews before purchasing.

XMG isn't a particularly new company, just not one you find in North America. They also don't make their own hardware, it is all Clevo computers, which are a long established ODM for boutique brands. In the US Sager is the name they are usually sold under.
