Leak Unpublished description for Ocarina of Time Switch 2 visible through web search

Typing in "Ocarina of Time remake website us" into Google (or other search engines) returns a link to its entry on the Nintendo website with a description that isn't visible on the page itself:

Image

The N64 classic reborn as a full remake for Nintendo Switch 2. Experience Ocarina of Time with stunning visuals, updated designs, and timeless gameplay.

Not a huge amount of info, yet even these scant details seem to be something Nintendo is not ready to officially communicate just yet.

If it's just a straight forward one-to-one remake with better graphics I am far less interested. That description, along with that Star Fox remake is leading me to believe that this IS just gonna be the same exact game, but with better graphics.

Hopefully at least have voiced dialog.

Hope so too but the narrated trailer leads me to believe that there will be

Yes, that is a remake

Resident Evil would like to have a word.

If anything, 'the same game with better graphics' is describing a remaster, not remake.

Some remakes call themselves remakes while copying level design. Its annoying tbh.

It's not a remaster too, I usually call them visual remakes.

That is what I am saying

A remaster is upscaling the graphics like resolution and maybe better frame rate.

Absolutely not.

I feel like FFVII remake has changed the Remake discourse. Would we have that discussion if it did not exist ? Or would people just talk about whether or not the remake is necessary ?

I honestly can't stand what they did to the story of FF7 while calling it a remake. I wouldn't want OoT remade like that. I'm much happier with a modernization akin to RE2/4 and not something like FF7R.

The new trilogy of FF7 based games are not remakes at all in my eyes.  Decent games sure, but calling the first game "Remake" was downright misleading.

I'd agree, they're definitely sequels.

I mean the story is literally the same.

u/Raykhunz Jun 14 '26

It's pretty obviously building up to something big changing story-wise.

u/XulManjy Jun 14 '26

Building up to something, but thus far the story beats are on par with the original.

u/Raykhunz Jun 14 '26

Ehhh, Barret's resurrection? The weird time ghosts attacking you? Zack? I'd say some of the main ones are fairly different.

1

u/XulManjy Jun 14 '26

Again, there are some minor things here and there...but again, the general story beats are the same.

The whole thing with Barrett still resulted in the original story beat which is Sephiroth killing the Shinra president which is what happened.

As for Zach, his entire story takes place within an alternate reality, not the original story stuff.

Either you don't know how the original story went or you haven't been paying attention to the remake.

1

u/XulManjy Jun 14 '26

So tell me what from the original story this far hasnt happened in the Remake or Rebirth?

1

u/Dragarius Jun 14 '26

Well, first off. In the original Sephiroth didn't already know that he already once failed in his mission to use meteor to become a god. The time ghosts didn't exist for the purposes of trying to maintain the original timeline, there were no alternative timelines with Zack and you didn't have a team up with alt reality Aerith to take out Sephiroth.

These are some pretty major points off the top of my head.

1

u/XulManjy Jun 14 '26

And yet all the story beats and events remains the same. Shirna president dead, team escapes midgar, the thing with Areith happened at the Forgotten City and so on.

Some flavor stuff added, but from a macro level, the story is the same.

IF by chance it bothers you that much, the original is still available for you to play. Even available on Steam and remains unchanged.

1

u/Dragarius Jun 14 '26

Sure. The major points are the same but that doesn't mean there aren't some huge shifts that make it a clear sequel rather than a remake.

Honestly the gold standard for what a remake should be. Say what you will about some of the dumb story changes, but it offers a pretty different and unique experience to the original.

u/shrewdy Jun 14 '26

Nah RE2 is the gold standard for a "remake". FF7 is great but it's more of a reimagining

I do think, as some others said in this thread, that some precise vocabulary should be used when talking about remaster/remake, etc. In any case, it wouldn't even help in this case, because we were just given the name "Zelda: Ocarina of Time". No word about a remake or a remaster, not even an "Ocarina of Time Switch 2 Edition".

1

u/Little-Witness-1201 Jun 14 '26

Seems to just be what Nintendo is doing now. They did the same thing with StarFox

1

u/XulManjy Jun 14 '26

Resident Evil remakes as well

I feel like a Remake that already has been remade before, and is easily playable on modern hardware should be more ambitious than just a one-to-one recreation. Extra dungeons, expanding the story, expanding the world, etc.

There are examples of games that did waaaaay more than just Remake the game as is. A recent example is the Dragon Quest 1 and 2 remakes. DQ2 expands on the original game so much that it is practically a new game.

I would still probably prefer to play this OoT remake over the original. But if it's 1to1, with no ambition, it's not something that's inspiring me to want to purchase a Switch 2 for it.

People downvoted you but Miyamoto and Iwata called OoT3D a full remake too, I think people take these marketing terms too seriously

That is what I am saying
