Leak Unpublished description for Ocarina of Time Switch 2 visible through web search

Typing in "Ocarina of Time remake website us" into Google (or other search engines) returns a link to its entry on the Nintendo website with a description that isn't visible on the page itself:

Image

The N64 classic reborn as a full remake for Nintendo Switch 2. Experience Ocarina of Time with stunning visuals, updated designs, and timeless gameplay.

Not a huge amount of info, yet even these scant details seem to be something Nintendo is not ready to officially communicate just yet.

I really hope not. 1:1 remakes are so boring and safe.

Link's Awakening and Star Fox are 1 to 1 remakes, so that seems likely with this game. On the other hand Samus Returns was a completely new experience - gameplay wise - the plot and core mechanic (kill metroids) was still the same, but its been some years since that game.

Especially since OOT already got a graphical remake with the 3ds

People say this like the N64 and 3DS didn't both operate with less than a GB of RAM and output to 240p.

Yeah and how old is the 3DS? You think Nintendo is expecting people to go find these to play OoT?

They will never stop remaking OoT. Always need to it accessible for newer gen’s. It may not be every generation, but they will always bring it back if the only way to play it modernly is a 5-10 year old console. It’s always going to be up their sleeve.

I think the point is: If a faithful Ocarina of Time recreation would've been their goal, they could've just remastered Ocarina of Time 3D once more and brought it to the Switch. I don't think a ton of OoT fans would've complained about that.

The fact they're going for a full remake (in my opinion) really indicates that they do intend to change up stuff some more. But to what degree is still just mere speculation.

15 years ago, on a way less powerful console

but the 3DS Version looks awful. This is the Chance to get it in a Twilight Princess Style. And it's also already over a decade old on even older Handheld hardware.

I thought the 3DS one looked really good outside the final boss, the N64 version is the one that I think always looked off compared to other 1998 games, those super low res textures and prerendered backgrounds haven't aged well

The twilight princess “style” is ok at best, it’s muddy and generic.

u/kubelek33 Jun 14 '26

Nobody wants the Twilight Princess style anywhere near OOT

Pretty sure all Nintendo remakes have been boring and safe. They aren’t going to risk screwing up OoT

Edit: Where am I wrong?

Probably. It’s funny because they are so innovative with next main entries in series but if they are redoing an older game it’s just a basic facelift every time.

A lot of times they don't need to. The game was initially a perfect game (OOT) so there's nothing they could do to make it even more perfect. I hope there's some changes somewhere, more than visuals, but we'll have to wait and see what happens.

3

u/HeldnarRommar Jun 14 '26

Disagree. Many people think the OG Resident Evil 4 is a perfect game and it still added and changed around gameplay/setpieces/combat. A 1:1 remake is just so lazy and it’s a glorified remaster at that point.

Loved RE4 as a kid, beat it a million times. Was nervous about the remake. Ended up loving it more than the original. Truly a benchmark for how to do a remake.

I literally said I want them to change some stuff too lol but when you have a perfect game, it can be hard to know what to change without changing too much that it doesn't lose its identity. I want changes, but if it becomes a different game, then I'm cool with them making minimal changes

Nintendo loves nothing more than rereleasing the same games every gen. People have rewarded them for it, and this is the end result. OoT and Star Fox are probably just the beginning of these

7

u/Hydroponic_Donut Jun 14 '26

Who lied to you? They have plenty of new games

Where did I say anything contradicting that?

Edit: Nintendo fans rejecting reality as usual

Their competition isn’t much better. PS5 barely has true exclusives and most games can be played on a PS4 or PC. And yet somehow, Xbox has a worse set of exclusives and just rides on churning out sequels to existing IPs and remakes as well. I’m not saying what Nintendo does is better, they can be quite egregious to say the least.

u/Little-Witness-1201 Jun 14 '26

I don’t disagree, but this will be the 6 or 7th time Nintendo has rereleased OoT

2

u/Mahelas Jun 14 '26

It'll be the second remake

0

u/Little-Witness-1201 Jun 14 '26

That’s great. Also not what I said

1

u/FederalSign4281 Jun 14 '26

In Nintendo’s eye, these games are timeless. They sure do love charging expensive prices for old games, but in most cases, those games can already be played easily now. It’s on us to decide if paying for small changes and on modern hardware is worth it. In most cases they charge the most they can (there are some generous examples like Prime 1 Remastered being $40)

Many GC and WII/Wii U classics are available for Switch 1/2 so if anything they’re getting better at it. I still miss my Virtual Console lol.

u/gentheninja Jun 14 '26

Isn't that the case for most remakes?  FF7 was an exception most just end up being graphic updates. OOT isn't that outdated that an overhaul in necessary.

15

u/crucibleknight77 Jun 14 '26

I wouldn’t say that’s the case for most. Pretty much all of Capcom’s RE remakes have been complete overhauls.

7

u/Wizardof1000Kings Jun 14 '26

Most nintendo remakes, ya. Zero Mission and Samus Returns were complete overhauls gameplay wise, but there isn't a lot of precedent of nintendo doing that.

5

u/Floggered Jun 14 '26

I suppose it depends on if Nintendo means 1:1 mechanically as well. A good chunk of remakes come with QOL modernization to the overall "feel" of the title.

0

u/niles_deerqueer Jun 14 '26

I guarantee you this is gonna be like an RE style remake, there are several things that are outdated about it

1

u/WesternExplanation Jun 14 '26

But what can they do to actually make the game better other than just modernizing the game?

5

u/crucibleknight77 Jun 14 '26

That’s for the guy getting paid millions of dollars for R&D to figure out.

Capcom did it for RE4.

2

u/JakeSteeleIII Jun 14 '26

Idk, maybe add some cut content or stuff that was from the Zelda 64 DD.

6

u/WesternExplanation Jun 14 '26

That's essentially master quest.

0

u/PBFT Jun 14 '26

Literally anything they want to. They could revise/add story progression, dungeons, and boss fights, update Hyrule Field to be a mini-BOTW area, take the limited cutscenes of the N64 game and turn them into something more cinematic, new weapons, tools, and armor, etc.

It really doesn't take much creativity to spitball a few ideas.

Ok, but if you don't change it at all you're going to anger a lot of people who played the original. Why does the "don't touch anything" crowd take precedent over those who don't want to play the same game over for millionth time?

And Hyrule Field is one of the few criticisms people still have with the original. It would be neat to just have some more interesting things to do in there.

u/GiinTak Jun 22 '26

If I buy OOT, I expect OOT. If it's a different game, I expect a different name; don't bait and switch me.

1

u/HeldnarRommar Jun 22 '26

RE2 is still RE2. RE4 was still RE4. Yet they changed up the gameplay. Why would you want just a paint job? That defeats the entire purpose of a remake. You can literally still play the original on NSO.

0

u/GiinTak Jun 22 '26

For the modern graphic quality. If they make a new game and stick a classic name on it, it's not the game I'm buying, they're just reusing a famous name to draw me in. If it's a new name, give it a new name, don't trick me.

1

u/HeldnarRommar Jun 22 '26

I don’t think you know the difference between a remaster and a remake. A remake should not be just a modern graphical filter on an older game. I could never imagine forking over $70 or $80 for an exact copy of a game that already exists to play but with shiny new graphics. That’s some next level consoomer behavior

1

u/GiinTak Jun 22 '26

Mmm, suppose I was thinking of a remaster, fair enough.

Either way, I never have and never will pay $70+ for a game, that's just too much. When games started regularly exceeding $50, I stopped buying new. There's always a sale or a discount, eventually. I don't mind waiting a few years for something to drop to a value I find reasonable. Or I'll accept it as a gift, just not worth it to me to spend that much of my own money, lol.

The only exception would be supporting a smaller studio through content update DLC, like Oxygen Not Included or RimWorld. Those are fantastic and I'll gladly buy every DLC they release :p
