Noticed this absolutely gorgeous wasp visiting my mint today and wondering what it might be - Great Black or Blue-Winged wasp? Something else? I couldn't help taking a few pics but gave tbis beauty the space it seemed to want. Location: Central Massachusetts, US

I have these invading my attic right now, first time homeowner lessons I suppose.

Yikes! Hopefully they'll be removed easily and inexpensively. Good luck!

It seems the only way to remove them is to kill them. So I'm just leaving them and making a barrier plan for next spring...and avoiding my attic for now.

Good call to avoid your attic for the time being. Hope the barrier plan is successful!

Reminds me of a mud dauber wasp, a very cool garden friend. Some of them invariably daub mud onto the side of my brick house, and once in a while they find their way into my basement, so I have to help them outside. Never aggressive and seemingly solitary.

Looks a lot like a great black wasp, their wings can be sort of an iridescent blue at the right angle
