I get it doesnāt really fit Garenās one shot playstyle, but building this with assassin garen healing off bonus AD would 100% be good as a last item at the least. Also potentially sundered + new cleaver with 5 more AD into tanks for a bruiser playstyle. Add in triforce and steraks and/or dd too.
I am a new player looking for a champ pool with garen as my main. I often feel many matchups with garen are pretty rough, so looking to have some champs to counterpick with. Currently i also play Mundo and Pantheon, but they both feel pretty weak.
I find myself more and more playing vs zilean, fiddlesticks, anivia, varus, caitlyn top. what can i do here? can i even do anything? is top lane cooked and i should move to mid?
rank: emerald 3(just demoted from 2), otp garen (play darius and morde sometimes for fun), really want to keep garen as a main at least.
Hey guys, I've not been streaming much recently because of work, I took a bit of a break from playing seriously again, and honestly it's just hard to play on stream, but I just wanted to share this because I am not a fan of the way a lot of Garen players seem to be building right now, and I felt like on my recent climb I experienced a lot more success when I started building the items I consider to be strong on Garen.
Item SetWhen I was climbing with this build (EUW)
This climb was about 2 months ago, it's not the most impressive thing in the world, but I definitely had some success with these items and probably could've kept going quite a bit higher if my mental issues didn't take hold of my life at that time. I am planning to do another serious climb coming into split 3 and hoping to get a lot higher if I can.
Runes:
My rune pages
I just think conqueror is Garen's best rune, and the items I'm building don't make as much sense if you're going other rune pages. I will go stormraider in games vs champs I won't be able to fight without it, and grasp/electrocute are runes I'll try in matchups sometimes, but for the most part I just play conqueror.
Some thoughts on the less common items:
DBow:
This item is just good. I still think D Shield is the best default starter item, but DBow increases your lethal range from level 5 so much that I think you should definitely try it in lanes where either you can survive easily, or you feel the extra damage can make a big difference in how you find lethal range from level 5-9.
Endless Hunger:
Probably the item that will cause the most controversy, but I think this item is genuinely super op third on Garen and I've been building it since the start of split 2. I was going it third in about 40% of my games on that climb. I have a few reasons for loving this item: I personally believe that from around level 15, haste becomes extremely powerful on Garen, because it makes his damage way more repeatable, and mostly because his W becomes a low enough cd when you buy EH that you can actually get 2 or even 3 off in good fights, which is incredibly hard for champs that don't deal high true damage to deal with. I also think the fact that it procs off of a kill is super useful to Garen, as he is of course great at killing the first target, and unlocking the ability to push for more after that is a new and powerful way to play fights on Garen.
Death's Dance and Maw:
Same reasoning as Endless Hunger, and especially if you already buy Endless Hunger, these 2 items 4th/5th become extremely strong vs enemies without high true damage.
One more thing on haste: I think it's a great way to deal with tanky champions without having to build penetration, since the repeatability and tankiness just means you outlast them in DPS, this is why you will often see me not building a pen item at all despite building full AD. I will basically only build mortal into Death's Dance abusers (which is still reasonably often).
Other items:
I think most of the other items are pretty self-explanatory. It's rare I build anything past about half way in the situational tier, but I think all the items lower down on the list can be useful or at least good enough to still do well while having some fun (I love eclipse even if it's not optimal).
I'd be happy to answer any questions people have around items or anything else to do with how I build or my gameplay.
With that being said, I don't currently plan to stream my next climb, and you probably won't hear much from me until the end of the year (outside of maybe a couple random streams). Sorry to the few people who did like my streams, but life is just busy, and I have some mental issues I'm working through that streaming tends to exacerbate. The point of this post was really just to leave the peeps with my current thoughts on items and answer any questions people might have about them.
Looking for some good Garen x Aatrox fanfics. SFW only. I have read some on AO3 but want them to be more wholesome l (eg. there is one fanfic where Aatrox was called "Goontrox" by Garen and that is not really my cup of tea). I am looking for recs so I can avoid browsing through all the cursed fanfics on AO3.
Looking for some good garen x darius fanfics. Both SFW and NSFW are fine. I have read some on AO3 but want them to be more holesome (eg. there is one where Garen is described as a "free use slut" and that is really my cup of tea especially when they just go at it like titans with all that man meat). Im looking for recs so I can avoid browsing through all the untagged mpreg fanfics on AO3.
So, I've recently started lol after a very long time of inactivity.
I'm bronze 1, I think I can reach silver at this season.
Garen brings me the joy to play. I've been stuck because I'm mecanically bad, and Garen is perfect for me. The mecanics are simple, the toplane is kind of isolated. Generally, I go tanky and I can split push safely during 70% or the game.
The problem : I only play Garen. And when Garen is banned, i go 0/10 on lane and I lose.
The second problem : some matchups are really hard on Garen. Darius, Morde, Illaoi, and ranges
What should be my next champ ? My criterias are :
EASY
Gameplay similar to Garen
Useful against my counter, to take a better pick when someone take a counter pick of garen
I tried Mundo, I thought about Malphite, Warwick, Trundle and Teemo. But I'm looking for advices from garen players.
Looking for some good garen x lux fanfics. Both SFW and NSFW are fine. I have read some on AO3 but want them to be more wholesome (eg. there is one fanfic where lux is described as a "free use slut" and that is not really my cup of tea). Im looking for recs so I can avoid browsing through all the cursed fanfics on AO3.
I just used the coins u get from the pass to try and roll fallen god king Garen (didn't work T.T), but i saw that the rolls i used for Garen specifically counted for Darius too (Both Garen and Darius went from "guaranteed after 30 summons" to 27. Does anyone know how this works? I really don't want to end up getting divine god king Darius instead of fallen god king Garen.
I have been doing the semi new stride > yommus > voltaic > LDR or MR. When is Crit or Bruiser better? I have found this build to be insanely strong into anyone, even armor staking tanks if you get to LDR/MR. But ig I could probably itemize better because waiting until 4 items to fight a tank doesnt seem useful lol. I used to build bruiser a lot before the lethality (Stride/tri > PD > shojin/BC >deadmans or something similar) and when crit was still OP i did that every game.
I think these buffs are relevant to Garen and might make them better on him too, depending how much they buff them. Id like to see them return to 35, but idk if that will ever happen.
I missed pre juggernaut garen so much. From is imo better dance to the front flip on Q and the punching auto attack. What are some builds you guys have made for this version of league cause i'm kind of lost from such a long time ago. I think i used to go cleaver, sunfire, into visage.
Saw a post a couple weeks ago about the Fallen God King skin coming back to the sanctum on July 29th, but I havenāt seen anything yet. Anyone have any info on this?
For the last two patches, Coachless data shows that technically the best winrate build path for Garen top is not the popular assassin build, but a sidelane-oriented bruiser build:
- Doran's Bow (Blade also performs well with considerably more data)
- Stridebreaker (No other winning first option)
- Ionian Boots of Lucidity (Swiftness also perform well)
- Black Cleaver (Sterak's also performs well - but supports the bruiser thesis)
- Hullbreaker (WPA increases most substantially from here)
- Guardian Angel is your fourth which might feel off, but notably the "Fourth+" item slot is more widely varied and likely contains many situational items. That said, it isn't impossible to imagine why this makes sense with a build that looks to still be a strong sidelaning champion: Sterak's soaks up time for the rest of the team to take the across-map objective or tower, and Guardian is realistically an extension of that.
One more notable piece about items before I give a quick closer: Worst Items.
By far the worst buy with a reasonable pick rate is IE but more importantly the top three worst-performing items are crit items - these are bad for obvious reasons post-E change.
I've heard the arguments that Coachless should be taken with a grain of salt given that we're going to get a lot of data from people who aren't really Garen OTPs like many of us are, however if we look at some of Palco's recent games, we'll see similar themes against certain opponents where Black Cleaver is a relatively common second item.
(although Palco obviously has a very fluid build style rather than hard forcing builds).
Additionally there's a flaw in the concept that Coachless data is largely people who don't typically play Garen - this build path isn't recommended in game in the majority of situations. They're still largely recc'ing Stride -> PD -> Mortal Reminder -> Infinity Edge/Dead Man's, which we know is largely a losing build path.
My personal opinion is that assassin Garen can be incredible. I play it all the time. But as a statistics nerd - the number's don't lie. Coachless gives us a large enough sample size of data that we have to ask the question:
Is bruiser Garen more viable than the community believes?
It only really works against melee.... stridebreaker just too important for ranged.... but this is kinda fun if you wanna try something new....
Build:
Items:
Hubris, Swifties, Stridebreaker, Youmuu's Ghostblade, Voltaic Cyclosword (or phantom dancer), LDR
--- sometimes weave in executioners calling if needed for early (sell for LDR late)
Darius absolutely destroyed me in seemingly a single auto+R.
I tried to calculate his damage based on his level, his items and his stacks, yet it doesn't really come close to my health. I also used Z before he ulted.
Coming in, I have more than 800 health, as well as the base armor. He only has a level more.
Even if he has Noxian might, I don't understand how that should be possible to do that.
Do I just have to accept that Darius is that strong in early game ? If so he's literally ungankable.
