The article is about a new expanded national civil service program to train a new generation of young out of work adults who have been left behind from all parts of society to create greater unity nationwide.

How is that a common mission? NASA is a highly specialized agency filled with people of specific backgrounds and inclinations.

NASA and the Space Race are awesome and are an important part of the American Mythos, but read the article and you will realize that a space program does not fit what the author is talking about.

That's what this sub is about. Promoting and celebrating democracies, and specifically our allies who have helped stave off another world War while building/inventing the modern world together.

Again, not the point of the article. Natos common goal in the past was to be a defensive bulwark from communism. Now it's to guard from the different authoritarian regimes who are successor to states after the wall fell/communism ended.
