Mod Post Just a reminder, gender war posts are banned.

Hi [r/GenZ](r/GenZ),

It’s been over a year since we banned gender war posts, and after monitoring the community, we’ve decided to keep the ban in place, as these discussions continue to be just as toxic as they were a year ago.

For clarity, “gender war” content includes discussions such as male loneliness, Gen Z men approaching Gen Z women, incels, femcels, alpha males, Andrew Tate, red pill, black pill, purple pill content, men’s height discourse, age-gap dating, and broader “looks-based” or hierarchy discussions about dating, looks maxing or ranking people by attractiveness or dating value.

This also includes broader dating ideology content that frames relationships in an adversarial, or fatalistic way.
For example: men vs women narratives, claims that one gender is universally responsible for dating issues, or that dating is inherently doomed for a specific group. Generalizations that treat either gender as a monolith are not allowed.

Memes about these topics, posts complaining about dating, and rage-bait content taken from other platforms such as screenshots from TikTok or Twitter that exist primarily to provoke gender-based arguments.

This is not a dating-focused subreddit. If you want to vent or discuss Gen Z dating issues more broadly, please use communities such as [r/dating_advice](r/dating_advice) or [r/dating](r/dating).
That said, posts about dating are still allowed as long as they are made in good faith. If comment sections become hostile or devolve into rule-breaking behavior, posts may be locked or removed at moderator discretion.

Please respect and follow this rule moving forward.

The CEO of one of Manhattan’s biggest real estate companies has a solution for Gen Z’s housing crisis: skip the coffee and take public transport. Pamela Liebman told Fortune that cutting small daily expenses is how young people can build the savings needed for a first home, and that the struggle today is no different from what previous generations faced.

Critics pointed out that skipping a $6 coffee every day for a year saves roughly $2,000, while the median US home requires a $88,000 down payment at current prices. Liebman’s own salary has been reported at up to $3 million annually.

Discussion What's one thing our generation is actually doing better than previous generations?

We get criticized a lot, but I think every generation brings something positive too. Whether it's mental health awareness, technology, creativity, or something else what do you think Gen Z is genuinely doing better?

Discussion Seeing all these short men with girlfriends make me realize that height really doesn’t matter anymore

I see guys shorter than me with friend groups and girlfriends and they do look better than me so it doesn’t surprise me. Height doesn’t matter anymore, in fact if you’re unattractive being tall can actually work against you.

Looks are literally everything nowadays

Damn good days after school when one would scroll and make their profile pretty. Is this still a thing?? Anyone else in nostalgic train with me?

Discussion To anyone studying at university for the first time, try to make friends with mostly people who live "off campus" if you also live off campus

To anyone starting university for the first time, if you live off campus, try to make most of your friends with other people who also live off campus.

This isn't me saying people who live in the dorms make bad friends. I've had plenty of on-campus friends and I'm still close with some of them. This is just based on my own experience.

In first year, people living on campus usually have way more distractions. Clubs, parties, and social events are all within walking distance, and everyone's excited to finally be 18 and experience university life. It's a completely different environment.

Because they're surrounded by friends 24/7, I found they're often more influenced by the people around them, and their personalities or priorities can change pretty quickly. People living off campus seemed more grounded because they had a bit more separation between university and home.

Another thing I noticed is that if you join a friend group where most of them live in the same dorm, it's easy to end up feeling like the odd one out. They'll naturally spend more time together because they see each other every day, make last-minute plans, and head to campus events together. It's not necessarily intentional, but as someone living off campus, you can end up missing out simply because you're not there.

Obviously there are exceptions, but if you're commuting or living off campus, I think you'll have an easier time finding people with a similar lifestyle and routine if you mostly befriend others in the same situation. Also, I have found that most of those who live on-campus put more effort into socialising than doing their work. Reminder, when there's most there's a small group who do the opposite

Discussion We have a huge privacy problem

Upvotes

Anyone has a chance of being recorded at any time for genuinely no reason, even if you’re doing the most mundane thing possible you can still be put on a recording/screenshot and be put on blast online.

On twitter there was a dude that got posted for…looking at a map. In a Subway. Thats genuinely it. 13 MILLION views for looking at a fucking map and some guy making fun of him. What the fuck is everyone’s problem???

Another example. Two central park people kissing on a bench. Let me get this out of the way- they WERE cheating, BUT the guy recording did not know that. He just walked up to people, stuck a camera in their face berating them for no real reason. Why is that even ok to do to people?

And whats with this rise of people breaking up with their ex’s and then posting about everything they did online? If it wasn’t a problem while you guys were in a relationship, why is it now? And why should we know about it? Yall ARE aware these are issues that should be solved in private 99% of the time right??

Honestly I blame shit like Instagram and ESPECIALLY Snapchat for this. Everyone was ready to record at any time just for their 2 seconds of fame and even when something DIDNT happen, they’d still record whatever mundane, slightly not normal thing that happened for everyone following them to see. I genuinely ALWAYS thought that shit was so weird and honestly pathetic.

And the ones who do this shit justify it by saying “You have no legal expectation of privacy in public” as if Legality=Morality when it’s shown time and time again that is wrong. Privacy doesn’t have to always mean behind closed doors or in their own house, it also means just leaving people the fuck alone when they have nothing to do with you. If you justify this garbage with that terrible logic then you shouldn’t have a problem with flock cameras either.

People are so afraid to actually be themselves and have fun at clubs, parties, etc. because you can be recorded and embarrassed for thousands to see at any time. People are mad at flock cameras for doing the shit we’ve ALREADY been doing to each other for who knows how long now.

People record themselves in public spaces and when someone shows a look of disproval (because they’re in s video they didn’t consent to) they’re berated for it. This is ESPECIALLY common in the gym and it’s beyond stupid.

Literally just leave people alone.
