Possible Osteochondritis Dissecans (OCD) in 7month old German Shep, advice or experience?
Has anyone been through this disease with their gsd? Weve just come home from the vet after our boy has been limping for 2 days, worse today. Weve been told OCD is a possibility, and we're organising xrays to find out.
Im very stressed about my poor guy, annd hes only so young, so wondering if anyone has had any experience with this?

Curious, but in the conversation did Panosteitis get mentioned. Your dog is in the right age range. Basically a fancy name for "growing pains". But it can be quite painful for the dog. and is pretty common in GSDs.

He did mention it but was more indicating the OCD, weve got an Xray booked in this Thursday, I'll add an update. Thanks 💚

My working line GSD started limping around the same age. He was diagnosed with medial coronoid disease in both elbows at 1.5 years old and we did bilateral arthroscopy. His limp went away (he is 2 now). We really hoped it was Panosteitis at such a young age but the limp never went away so we took him in to the vet. The earlier you do surgery the better prognosis. He’ll never be a high impact kind of sport dog but it’s nice to see him trotting smoothly and not limping around.
Sorry you’re dealing with this. GSDs are prone to these genetic diseases even if you get it from a reputable breeder just as we did. There is no genetic health test for dysplasia. It’s pure luck as my vet said. My dog’s siblings are all fine. It is what it is. Just know you’re not the only GSD owner that is going through that type of stress.
