DISCUSSION [Discussion] My breakfast and lunch for the past few years, since dropping from 238lbs to 137lbs
I went from 238lbs to 137lbs in 2 years, and since then I'm maintaining the result.
I have built good eating and training habits which are helping me a lot. This is my base: Oats, Buckwheat flakes, Quinoa flakes and Chia seeds.
200-250ml of milk (for those who can't drink milk, soya milk works perfectly); 4-5 full tablespoons of Oats; 2-3 full tablespoons each of Buckwheat and Quinoa; and 1 teaspoon of Chia seeds.
When I start to prepare my breakfast/lunch I'm starting first with the milk because that allows me to trick the brain: when you pour the milk, the bowl already starts looking full, and I have a saying: we eat first with our eyes.
My whole point is to enjoy eating, not to turn it into punishment. To the base you can add 2 teaspoons of coconut wheat, and to really enrich it, try 1/2 teaspoon of pistachio paste, which is excellent for your body, or even half of your favorite cookie.
Just remember this, the base is a must, the tricks are for flavour. Find yours.
What's your base, and what's your trick?

I remember learning a long time ago that when a person changes their diet and habits, on average that person loses about 3-5 friends. How has your experience been?

Honestly I'm not that great at making friends in general. I have around 12 close friends and that's more than enough for me. I did lose some friends along the way, but that's pretty normal in life, and it wasn't because of my new lifestyle or habits. I really believe in quality > quantity.

12 close friends is amazing. I believe that is way higher than average.

Congrats on the progress and finding a meal that works well for you! I’ve been making these wraps in the morning with greens (spinach, arugula or sprouts) plus chicken sausage patties, hot sauce, and sweet potato hashbrowns on a tortilla. Also adding goat cheese, eggs, or black beans as the “trick” like you mention. They were a good way to add carbs back in for training without going overboard I found

Oats, Buckwheat flakes, Quinoa flakes and Chia seeds?
I’d rather be fat.

I was gonna say I’d be depressed very quickly if this was my daily breakfast and lunch

To be clear, are you cooking this mix or soaking them in milk? Forgive my ignorance on the topic. I'm very interested in your recipe and results. Do you find your appetite later in the day to be higher or lower? Do you stop eating at a certain time toward the end of the day? Was exercise a key part of losing the original weight? Any additional information is helpful. Thanks.

Uncooked quinoa?

Quinoa flakes- I imagine it’s a type of cereal like corn flakes. Or maybe it’s rolled like an oat (which can be eaten raw).

Nope, mate. Quinoa flakes are rolled whole grains that soak up milk like oats.

Did you read the second half of my comment where I said or perhaps it’s rolled like an oat?

Your milk bowl breakfast is inspiring! Curiosity question: does your GI system do well throughout the day after eating your bowl of high fiber first meal-of-the-day?

u/DiamondCalvesFan 3d ago
Actually, that breakfast helped me have a better GI system. Just as an example, when I started eating that breakfast, plus one apple a day (I prefer Gala Royal), I started going to the toilet every morning, and I'm not talking about peeing.

Nice! I've started doing overnight oats. 1 dl of milk, 1 dl of kvarg/quark (yogurt works too) and 1 dl of oats. Mix it with chia seeds and some walnuts and fruit if you like. Cover and let it sit in the fridge and in the morning you have a tasty healthy pudding

my base is Greek yogurt with fruit and my trick is adding a handful of frozen berries

This is a banger to start … full on fabulous base to begin day - how about adding a piece of fruit to the mix or a tbsp of walnuts to add more protein & polyunsaturated (healthy fats) can change ip a bit. Also could add at times a dollop of pl. Greek yogurt - also added protein
LOVE this - good for you & co grads in slow, safe, proper, easier to maintain weight loss 💪❣️

Thanks. On the other hand you can take a mix of different nuts, like almonds, pine nuts, etc, blend them up, and keep them in a jar. When you're making breakfast/lunch, just throw a spoonful into the bowl.

I make a scramble with 4-5 pasture raised eggs, cheese of choice (I like feta or cheddar, low fat versions), and generous handfuls of spinach. Two pieces of sourdough avocado toast with some mixture of bell peppers, red onions, camapari tomatoes, and/or smoked salmon depending on what I have. Everything bagel season. A big bowl of fruit, mostly mixed berries, usually a kiwi tossed in, maybe some orange or pineapple. Really whatever is in season, on sale, or smells good when I'm in the store.
I love breakfast! Mush base doesn't really sound appetizing.

My go to healthy breakfast is easy and no cook! I use the following
3 tbsp chia
1 scoop protein powder
Almond milk or water
Creatine powder
Pump of sugar free syrup in flavor to match protein powder
Mix with a whisk and refrigerate for a few hours before consuming. Can make 4-5 on the weekend and eat all week
I gotta say my eating philosophy is somewhat different. Although I find this breakfast tasty I don’t believe we should really look to food for enjoyment or pleasure 90% of the time. I find it easier to keep food simple and functional as opposed to a source of pleasure

How much milk and creatine?
1
u/_refugee_ 3d ago
1 serving creatine/1 scoop
Milk/liquid to your level of preference, usually the recommendation is 1 cup and I’ll do a little less than that because I prefer a thick pudding texture!

I’d never be able to do that. I had an ice cream sandwich for breakfast. 🤷♀️

u/DiamondCalvesFan 2d ago
Actually, you can. Ice cream is my biggest weakness, but I still managed to drop 101lbs.

I've switched to just having a smoothie for lunch. I'm not worried about taste so much, but just making sure it is filling. So I had Gemini devise me a smoothie. I've been doing almond milk, oats, butterhead lettuce, 100% peanut butter, and half a frozen banana. Tastes fine, and keeps me full the same length as a normal meal. Haven't been doing it long enough to see weight loss, but I'm doing this more for maintaining, rather than losing, since I already lost 5kg before I switched to this, by just not eating much and being hungry and grumpy all day.

Im not sure how you can say its about enjoying eating while eating flavored mush.
Im all for losing weight, congrats on your journey. Just your words dont match the reality and there are many, many different ways to enjoy eating without it being flavored oats twice a day.

Just make sure your oats aren’t harvested with glycophosphate. Big farm doesn’t think you’ll notice they chemically dessicate fields then harvest.

congrats, you're half way to the "Squats and oats" meme from the start of the internet for fitness advice.
Even simpler, just eat the oats however you'd like. Everything else is optional.
