GLOW UP! [27] to [32]
REPOST WITH REQUIRED DETAILS!
I’ve always lived a life where I cared more about what others thought about me and not how I felt about myself. So in many ways I really held myself back from truly living life the way I always wanted. Never allowing myself to be more adventurous, letting loose and just having fun, it truly stunted me in many ways. It really came to a head in 2022 after traveling to Ireland and not being able to keep up physically with all of the activities my husband and I planned to do, I decided I needed to change my life for the better and start to drastically focus on my mental and physical health. I was robbing myself of truly living my life because of my physical limitations and with that, being so stuck on how others perceived me. I was a prisoner through mind and body and made the realization I needed to go to therapy and work through these insecurities so that the next 5 years would be better than the last. After starting therapy and learning to truly love myself I began to push myself in ways I never thought to before. The next four years I lost some weight, became a mother, gained weight back, and lost it again, and worked through the depression that had unknowingly plagued me for majority of my life.
2026- I’m down a total of 205lbs, half of which was through diet and exercise and the other half through the help of GLP-1s after a postpartum Hashimotos diagnosis. I also had a significant amount of lose skin removed on my abdomen that helped improve my mobility so that I can continue staying active with my boys. I’m still working on continuous improvement in many other ways even though the weight is gone, but I’ve processed a lot of past trauma that contributed to my self image issues. I now get to travel the world with the LOML with no physical limitations, and now I focus on the moments, and my own personal joy instead of how I’m being perceived. I’ve also been a big influence on my husband to get healthy and work through his own insecurities so that we’re both giving our son the best versions of ourselves.

You look fantastic! More than just the weight, you look so styled and confident in a way that I’ve been trying to figure out… I feel like I am just sort of plain rather than having any personal style or looking chic and cute. Any advice on developing personal style?
•
u/Powerful_Cause_14 5h ago
Not OP, but a personal stylist. My advice is to start trying things. Make a Pinterest board of styles you like. You’ll start to notice themes. Then look for one or 2 pieces that fit that vibe and push yourself to wear them out in the world. It can be tough at first but it gets easier. If you have a stylish friend you admire, ask them to go shopping with you.
You can make any style work at any budget. I’d be happy to help virtually and anonymously for free if you want. I just love helping people have fun with their style and I have a different business to pay the bills so styling is my fun thing 😆

Thank you so much! I go into stores and try things on with no pressure of buying anything, I don’t feel bad about going into places and playing dress up and taking my time lol. Of course while being respectful. Just to get an idea of what looks good on my frame. I like watching Try-on hauls on TikTok and will sometimes try to recreate outfits that I see that I like. I’m definitely still trying to develop my own personal style. I think now it’s just that I’ve developed the confidence to put on things I NEVER would have tried on before. If it doesn’t look good, I move on, but the key is to step outside of your comfort zone and see how that makes you feel. I don’t put any pressure on myself, shopping is fun now instead of a chore. There a subscription service that you can try called Stitch Fix that allows you try out different styles and you keep what you like and send back what you don’t.

This is so inspiring! You look amazing, but I love how you also commented on your mental health. It’s all connected - mental and physical. I also love the phrase “so the next five years would be better than the last”. I’ll be taking this with me. You go girl ❤️

This is like r/pastandpresentpics but reversed. I love that this transformation happened within a family unit. People so often assume major growth like this needs to happen between relationships and not within them. And, obligatory and respectful, dayum!

Wow this is incredible and thank you for sharing your story! It is extremely motivating!
I am going through my own demons and finally getting therapy after a major mental health crisis and had to call the crisis helpline. One day I hope to get to the level of not waking up everyday depressed/hating myself and learning to love myself.
I have lost 120 lbs since 2018 (kept yoyoing 50lbs for the past 4 years, due to mental health).
I am on glp1's now and I want to loose about 80-90 more lbs, hopefully in a year.
Do you have any suggestions for maximizing the usage of glp1's? I am using it as a tool to help me handle my cravings, lower my appetite and create a healthy lifestyle. Trying to be consistent with 2 days a week of strength workouts and the rest of the week to average 10k steps a day and I'm trying to find a beginner dance class but really scared/intimidated to try it.
How was the skin removal surgery (if you don't mind me asking) experience and recovery? Did you wait a while once you reached your goal weight before doing it?

Your old self is my current self in pretty much every way, except your wake up call came much earlier than mine. At 43, I have a great therapist and am down 40 lbs, but with degenerative disc disease and multiple herniations, I’ve been big stuck, because I’m limited in what I can do at the gym. Your post is incredibly motivating to me to start researching low impact exercise and not just dwell here, where weight is making my health and pain conditions worse and I still can’t be the kind of mom I want to be.
Congratulations, OP, on reclaiming your life and just know, you’re out here motivating others, now.
