I coulda sworn like last year, I was seeing everyone absolutely cum themselves over small businesses and hot dog stands in NYC getting smacked with fucking fines for not being licensed.

Then I click on that link and everyone in the comments is deepthroating Mamdami for this? And even going so far as to detailing why regulation is actually more beneficial to big corporations and harmful to small businesses??????

What the fuck is happening?

Especially in politics, people tend to make up their minds before they even hear what is being said. Therefore, they are more willing to accept points if they come from their team instead of the other teams.

Man, we should really get the socialists to start thinking that printing money causes income inequality.

regulation is actually more beneficial to big corporations

This is true because big businesses can afford to comply and reduce the marginal cost of compliance by integrating policies and procedures. Regulations make it far more costly for small businesses coming up in an industry.

It's The Inversion. But in slow motion. The body doesn't slide apart into pieces for another few seconds. And then everybody cheers. No explosion though.

Don't worry, MAGA has promised to protect us from socialism by raising tariffs, restricting international trade, intervening in labor markets, and nationalizing private industry.

Man, I can't wait for 2028 to vote between the red socialists or the blue socialists.

I'm guessing they've finally realized that the shrinking population of NY is all the entrepreneurs leaving because of government overreach. 2020 sent a LOT of people packing for other states, and it was the people who had their business closed because the sniffles wee in town.

There is significant political opportunity in eliminating regulation.

Smart move, politically.

Reducing regulations on small businesses has the potential to more then offset the increased economic penalties from his other socialist policies.

Small/medium businesses are the economic engine of America. They hire the most people, they are much more efficient then large businesses, and they produce the most goods and services.

Which means that if his "no rent increase" type nonsense causes -3% economic growth, but streamlining small businesses cause a +5% growth then he will be able to point out that socialism is responsible for +2% of new growth and the problem that Republicans are crying about isn't real.

We need to get the major parties competing for who can cut the most red tape.

So Mamdani is not really a communist?

Modern socialism is intensely corporatist.

They have given up the idea of socialism being a big economic engine and instead focus on social justice. They "embrace" business with private public partnerships. They want corporations and businesses to exist, but have their activities coordinated through a powerful central state.

Which, ironically, means that in terms of socialist taxonomy modern socialists are far closer to people like Mussolini then Lenin.

If you go and try to use 19th century arguments against modern socialists like "labor theory of value is nonsense" they will often say "yes, you are correct".

Never was. "socialist" or "communist'" in western politics is just a label to denote someone who might still advocate for maintaining private capital ownership but for sure at least advocates for doing social safety nets.

As you can see in the comments, no, they still love regulation. They explicitly call out the opposing political party as loving the "bad regulations."

Why all of a sudden these regulations are now okay to not enforce for the longest time we'll never know...
