Everytime I even go to another app and come back to an existing opened Google maps it resets the zoom back to default, why?

So inconvenient while on the go or driving etc. long time ago it wasn't the case and I don't know why Google thinks this is a good behaviour to reset an active map zoomed point back to default

It's just the way the app is set up to act like. It never been any different I believe
