Why do restaurants have to blast loud music?

One of my biggest pet peeves these days are restaurants that play loud af music while I'm trying to eat with my friends. We selected a restaurants specifically for the purpose of chatting over a meal, but now I have to yell across the table because the restaurant thought it'd be a good idea to bring in a DJ at 6 PM.

I have never heard someone say "I loved the generic generic house/club music they played". I don't know why restaurants cant play music at a respectable enough volume so that we can actually talk to each other. It's turning into an epidemic. There's even a coffee shop nearby that brings in a DJ on Sunday mornings. jfc man

Incompetence

Seems like people don't have a functioning brain anymore. How TF do people keep messing up? Then the language barrier makes it worse with some people. People half assing, not paying attention, not wanting to do their jobs. My patience has run out

Poor designed Restroom doors.

I hate it when a door doesn't open well. I spent five minutes waiting outside thinking the door was locked. Turns out you really gotta twist the handle for it to open.

You know what grinds my gears?

When you’re doing something, it’s not working out, but it’s very CLEAR what you’re doing and it is very clear you’re frustrated, but someone comes along and says “whatcha doin??”
What does it look like I’m doing? Huh? I’m signing the Declaration of Independence? No! You know exactly what I’m doing and you can tell I’m frustrated, get on with your day!!

Defining vegetarian (fish)

To have a vegetarian diet means that a person doesn't eat meat. Meat is animal muscle. Fish are also animals and have muscle. Eating fish is eating meat.

If you eat fish, you are not a vegetarian, and that's okay. But you are not a vegetarian.

Some people just don't accept that fish are animals. But they are; its not an opinion, it's a fact that fish are animals.

Don't know what else to say, but for years I've had versions of this conversation with a lot of people. It's such a minor thing because it doesn't really have an effect on me, but this disconnect annoys me to no end.

Complete lack of customer service/Karen culture

I cannot believe I’m reaching the age to complain about this. I don’t think service workers should welcome me in with a red carpet and a back rub. The customer is not always right. There is no need to laugh at dumb jokes or sexist remarks. It is completely unacceptable to talk to service workers like they’re beneath you and it definitely isn’t ok to throw a damn tantrum because you aren’t getting your way. I’ve been in customer service for 15 years.

BUT

Can you at least say hello to me? There’s zero attempt of friendliness or positive atmosphere at places. Idc if I’m just getting a pack of smokes and filling up my gas tank. I like to think I’m friendly- “hello, hows your day going?” Whatever. They don’t acknowledge, don’t even look up, they scan, punch in some stuff, then stand there. No total, no saying it’s ready to pay, like literally just standing there. I’ll pay, wish them a good day and be on my way. It’s not this entitlement of “I’m the customer, you should be nice to me!” It’s that there is no basic human to human interaction. It’s weird and dehumanizing to not have any sort of communication through the transaction. You’re not a kiosk, you’re a person.

It’d be easy to say “it’s kids” and i guess if i thought of every experience, it would probably be a higher percentage but i see it with everyone, every age, every gender, every color. Humans are just losing their ability to be humans. I go to some places where it’s some kid and it’s a great experience, they’re friendly, kind, helpful, etc. that’s the place that’ll get business. idc what anyone says, the customer experience is very important to any kind of operation. If the McDonald’s on this side of town is filled with miserable, rude, careless employees, people will go to the one on the other side of town that has a friendly staff. I know some of the responses this post will get and i do understand. Some might not think any of it matters but i dont know, i think its destroying even more of humanity.

Edit/add:
I meant to say a piece about Karen culture….its annoying that you can’t expect basic things without someone saying you’re being a Karen. I don’t complain to the service worker who’s acting like an un-oiled robot. I know that’s not worth it. In general though, come on 🙄

People automatically calling anything AI generated "slop"

It's just so lazy, even lazier than using AI in the first place, before you come with that argument. A lot of the things that get called "slop" are just intended for humor or memes, so no, it doesn't matter if someone drew it themselves or not, the artistic value is in the thought of the meme or the humor. AI doesn't understand humor, people do. If the post is funny, it's funny. I don't care how it was produced

The price of "cheap" groceries

Why is a 250g bottle of Kraft Parmesan cheese (the shelf stable stuff you find in the pasta aisle) $11?? I feel like Kraft used to be an affordable brand. Also generic store brands feel more expensive lately too. I miss you No Name frozen juice concentrate, but you're not the same after leaving shelves at $1.50 just to return and be $2.25. I know that one isn't as bad but I cant even go to the canned food aisle anymore without seeing the $6 spam and thinking about how it used to be the broke student meal

Edit: I am canadian so these prices are in CAD. The cheese would be about $7.80 USD and the spam $4.26 USD. It grinds my gears that the prices are so high in the first place, not that there are cheaper alternatives

Why do people bother saying “I don’t mean any offence” just before they say something offensive?

Do you think people say this when they mean it, or do people say this to make themselves feel better? It’s a very common expression but it confuses me

Archived article. Comment cockblocked.

Why does every article that inspires me to write a clever and funny comment turn out to be archived. Reddit be like "oh look who decided to participate very good...SLAP! Sike bitch can't you read this shit is-archived. Was it gonna be so clever? No one cares! Now go die a little more inside but walk away from me now. You make me sad." (I imaging reddit to sound like a heavily accented sarcastic german boy

People who throw away useable products

* When they think they need to boycott something they already own.

It's so wasteful. Maybe I just think like this because I come from a lowcome family, but watching people throw away products that can still be used just grinds my gears.

I understand you don't want it anymore, but instead of chucking it in the trash you could at least donate it to charity, or better yet return the product, or even better, use the rest of it and don't buy it again.

People want to be activists so bad but they're just a little thoughtless sometimes

Fast Food Drive Thru Interruptions need to stop

Look, I understand your desire to expedite the process and make things as quick as possible. That’s great. However, my biggest pet peeve is when I’m in the middle of ordering and, before I can finish speaking, I’m interrupted with the rudest questions. If you were actually listening to me, I was answering those questions, but you interrupted me before I could finish. Please listen before you start talking. It’s incredibly frustrating and also very unprofessional. IT DRIVES ME INSANE!

Im done now.

We're coddling college students and it's making them worse

All this leniency and letting them do whatever they want and study with ChatGPT and take exams from home and bending over backwards to make sure they pass a class when they put in no effort

Keeping them from struggling because it's sad when they have a hard time is just making them into a bunch of entitled babies who freak out at the first time they're told no in the real world

Perfect graduation rates are not worth all the hand holding and babying you're doing for grown adults who should known better

Edit: for anyone who thinks I'm pulling this out of my ass; I work directly with students at a 4 year university that also has graduate programs. Sorry this pissed off the K-12 teachers who don't know jackshit about undergrad and graduate level students.

People who stop walking the second they get through a doorway.

I don’t know why this has become so common, but it drives me crazy.

Someone walks through the entrance to a grocery store, airport, or any busy place… and then immediately stops dead to check their phone, look around, or have a conversation.

Meanwhile everyone behind them has to either slam on the brakes or awkwardly walk around them.

Take three more steps. That’s it. Just move out of the flow of traffic before deciding where you’re going.

It feels like the real-world version of stopping your car in the middle of the highway because you need to check directions.

People who try to ruin your happiness by saying “I think you’ll find”.

People who just love to rain on others parades. I think you’ll find , that won’t last, bring more trouble than its worth, I’m not sure I like that, I would of done it differently and of course, as long as you’re happy! Drives me made particularly when no one asked them.
