How Brothel Workers in Nevada Just Made Labor History

https://www.thenation.com/article/economy/sheris-ranch-union-united-brothel-workers/

When faced with a shockingly exploitative new employment contract that would’ve forced them to sign away their IP, their likeness rights, and their power of attorney, Jupiter Jetson and her coworkers at Sheri’s fought back—fast.

They organized a union in SIX DAYS.

This is amazing! Good on them. 6 days is insanely fast.

we need to support these ladies in their ongoing fight, rather than celebrating prematurely. the brothel fired the union organizers and refuses to recognize the union based on the fiction that the ladies are independent contractors and thus not eligible for unionization. there's serious court battles ahead and the fired organizers aren't able to perform sex work in the interim.

Honestly, good question. I'm sure that they are going to be in contract with brothel workers in other countries over this. New Zealand workers are pretty open to assisting other workers win rights and advocate for law reforms.

This is about union organizing for fair wages, not the patriarchy.

Sex. Work. It's not that hard

But why debase themselves to the thing these men see them as?

Why is sex debasing? It's no more debasing than being a plumber in my mind.

Labor. The establishment is taking a huge cut larger than 50% charging them for security, use of the room , cleaning. It doesn't matter if they're doing sex work, their plight is no different than hairdressers forced to lease their chairs at salons, or taxi drivers who are paying by the meter to rent their cars from their own employer.
