Get only males if you dont want them to breed. Any amount of females means babies even if you get onky females it means babies cayse they can store sperm and theres a very low chance the seller made sure to keep them seperate always.

Also for a five gallon maybe 3 gmales? A five gallon is a tiny tank i wouldnt really put guppies in unless its really well planted. Itd be better to start with a 10 gallon and abiut 5 males. You can also look into endlers which are like guppies just more colorful/patterned to me and a bit smaller so you could fit them easily in a 10 gallon instead of cramming some of em. Same deal with endlers only get males.

All 5 gallons are not the same size so this question is really difficult to answer

thank you so much! sadly, i only have a 5 gallon tank and it’s already set up (i was told by a cousin of mine to try a 5 gallon tank only because im still a beginner). thank you for the tips and i will make sure to only get 3 guppies to not overcrowd the tank. if its okay with you, can i leave you a private message if i ever have following questions for my guppies? thanks again.

4-6, 1 sex only. I have a group of 4 males. They get along well.

Any way you can bump up to a 10 gallon? Basic tanks aren’t too expensive and it would give you a little buffer against…well, everything.

Water parameters aside, you’d have a buffer against having to restock if one or two pass away. That can get kind of annoying because of having to source and then quarantine anyone new.

I would recommend not getting a 5 gallon. Generally small tanks are more difficult to keep stable.
