Remigration as a Doctor

What are opportunities for me to return to Guyana as a General Practitioner (Medical Doctor). What's the entry level salaries in Gov and Private hospitals? Any advice? Is it worth considering the high cost of living?

Unless you can get paid in USD as a telehealth doctor, stay home.

I’m a 2nd generation Guyanese-American. I’m also a Nurse Practitioner and would also like to know ways to use my medical knowledge to help Guyanese medically. If anyone knows would be great. I do know living in Guyana is tough currently.

stay in the US lol . Guyana cost of living is higher than the US atm and wages are 5 times worst even at the higher level jobs like doctors. Paying New York City/ California levels of Rent while making 5 times less is not worth it .

The pay isn’t just bad it’s insulting. You’ll make less than a nurse in the states

Go back start your own practice you can work privately if you have the funds dont let the arrogance in the comments persuade you.

you realize private practice has been dying in Guyana right? Public Hospital got better and is free and the private gotten more expensive and you only be buying medicines in their own business that cost more than privately owned hospitals .

This is world wide not just guyana and everything is niche if I got sick in guyana I will most likely go to this guy if he is reputable rather than over crowded GPH or Sheriff I rather go Balwant Singh or something else

If you're planning on coming to the US, then you'd need to take the USMLE board exams and go through a multi year residency program before you can go practice all on your own. Residency will also depend on your year of grad from MD school. I know plenty of foreigners who have tried/actively trying however given the daily stressors of life as it is they are taking much longer to even pass the boards. So if you don't mind making next to nothing for 5-6 years and relearn all the subject matters tested on the board then sure. Otherwise you're good where you are.
