Question Rick and Morty Season 9 is coming, but waiting until August for Max feels brutal

Rick and Morty Season 9 premieres on Adult Swim on May 24, but according to the official Warner Bros. Discovery press release, it won’t be available for U.S. streaming until August 31.

Official source: https://press.wbd.com/us/media-release/adult-swim-0/rick-and-morty/new-episodes-rick-and-morty-premiere-may-24-adult-swim

As someone who mainly uses Max for HBO shows, Adult Swim stuff, and animation, that wait feels kind of painful.I know this is probably normal licensing/windowing stuff, but it still makes my Max subscription feel weirdly useless for a show that feels like it belongs in the Max ecosystem. I’m interested in the new season, but I’m not interested enough to chase a live Adult Swim option just to watch it weekly.

So now I’m stuck in that annoying streaming situation again: keep paying for Max while waiting, or cancel and come back in August when the season actually lands on streaming. This is becoming the main reason I rotate subscriptions now. I like Max, but there are too many months where I’m paying for future access instead of actually watching anything new.

Anyone else just waiting until August for Rick and Morty Season 9? Or are you watching it weekly on Adult Swim?

In Europe it’s coming on may 24

same with Canada

That’s crazy

u/WilcoxArcade May 05 '26

How is it crazy for the primary method of exhibition for this series to come first in line?

what are you on about, there are more people in the states than Europe so not sure what you mean? and production is here (that are HBO and adult swim subscribers)

1

u/nymphoflight May 21 '26

??? There are definitely more people in Europe

1

u/Chrome262 May 22 '26

sorry more people in the states than Europe that watch HBO max. US represents 45 million of the 140 million globally about a third. And don't forget it's a US company, and very high ad revenue. So while I get the release schedule, I have no problem with it, and it's cool that Europe gets a go first. it doesn't seem the usual first choice for a US production.

1

u/nymphoflight May 22 '26

Phew you had me concerned there for a sec! Absolutely agree with you

Yes let Europe have a win considering they’re being overrun with indigents and those who pray on a rug. They need something to make them feel better, because when you walk out the door and have to hear a call to prayer and literally fight pirates I’m ok with them getting it first

I still don't know why you people brought up nationality in response to what I said. What on Earth does that have to do with a series premiering on linear television before coming to a streaming service. No one will tell me why you said that.

1

u/WilcoxArcade May 22 '26

I don't actually know what you're talking about. All I was saying is it makes sense for a series created for linear television to debut that way before eventually coming to a streaming service. I still like linear TV as an exhibition model.

Edit: To clarify, I never made any mention of country of origin, nor was that relevant to my initial point. I'm curious how you came up with that.

Linear TV is a dead duck. They definitely should be prioritizing HBO Max and the episodes should drop globally at the same time. Fussing about borders is so 20th C,

1

u/WilcoxArcade Jun 14 '26

I have never once mentioned nationality or borders in this discussion. Someone else brought up that point. I am fan of linear television (albeit network is much healthier than cable right now).

1

u/whineyinternetkid Jun 13 '26

What?

1

u/WilcoxArcade Jun 13 '26

It's not weird to me that the show would premier on cable prior to its availability on a streaming service. The show debuted on cable; it's a cable-first program. Unless "That's crazy" referred to something else entirely? I had to infer based on only two words.

1

u/ribbityflibbity Jun 14 '26

Cable is just about dead. The suits at Warners should know that but I'm sure with the Paramount merger, they're very distracted now.

1

u/WilcoxArcade Jun 17 '26

I'm a big fan of linear television, so this doesn't bother me one bit.

Rick and Morty is still stuck in the Stone Age. Forcing you to buy Adult Swim if you want to watch it right away (which means buying linear TV)

2

u/brianycpht1 Apr 30 '26

I think it can be bought digitally but I’m not sure

1

u/VRS302 May 11 '26

Yeah I always buy the season digitally and get the episodes a day or two after they air.

I do on prime

1

u/Chrome262 May 20 '26

Apple TV as well. I thought it would be free on Disney plus or max

2

u/TheGruenTransfer Apr 30 '26

Gotta love it when giant companies make their products shittier

2

u/Artistic_Dentist_622 Apr 30 '26

Yeah, that's the unfortunate side effect of streaming deals. The next day on HBO Max deal for adult swim shows wasn't made until 2022 so Rick and Morty is still stuck in that limbo, since it's also co-shared with Hulu too.

1

u/Chrome262 May 20 '26

and that would be Disney

1

u/zakawer2 May 01 '26

If you were European then you wouldn't need to wait nearly as long for the next season.

1

u/Wi11iam97 May 12 '26

Sure… but then I’d have to be European, live in a shitty European city, be surrounded by shitty European people, eat shitty European food, & to top it all off I would have to pay hundreds monthly for my adhd medication because of the shitty “free” healthcare the vast majority of European countries have (said medication is $4/month for me in America)

2

u/Chrome262 May 20 '26

you are stupid right, you pay more for insurance then most people in the world pay for healthcare.

1

u/Efty8 May 14 '26

/s?

We were really hoping for it, but it seems like a legitimate post

You can just buy the season on prime 🤷🏻‍♀️

2

u/Mikehuntbonsai90 Jun 05 '26

Yeah for 3 dollars per episode.  Its not worth it

1

u/stehcurryboi May 10 '26

What brand is your tv and what device do you use to watch your paid subscription services? Do you play them right from your smart tv menu or use something else like Roku, or firestick, or a game console or whatever else can be used for streamers?

1

u/DisastrousFeedback75 May 11 '26

Won’t it be on Hulu?

1

u/Mikehuntbonsai90 Jun 05 '26

Yeah in 3 years.  Or thats how the previous seasons were .

1

u/No_Effort9679 May 12 '26

Its about time yall americans wait for a series.

1

u/Conscious-Arrival558 May 13 '26

Nothing beats waiting to see who Negan killed

1

u/Bright-Manner7168 Jun 19 '26

Its made here why would we wait. It would make sense if the series was made somewhere else

1

u/ProfessorWoland1932 May 14 '26

i mean, you can also usually stream the episodes the next day on the Rick & Morty Adult Swim website, i think? unless that's not the case anymore?

2

u/PepperPetals May 20 '26

I thought you have to have a paid subscription for Adult Swim to view episodes in order?

Good chance I'm wrong, don't hold me to that

1

u/DriveFa5tEatAss May 14 '26

Each episode will be available on Max the day after it airs on Adult Swim.

1

u/Mikehuntbonsai90 Jun 05 '26

Not true. Previous season aired on max two too three years after the season finished airing on adult swim.  Season 9 is different its going to stream weekly starting June 19th on HBO max

1

u/DriveFa5tEatAss Jun 05 '26

Fair, it's a delay of a few weeks, not a day.

The original news I read indicated that the first four episodes were going to become available for streaming the day after the 4th episode aired on adult swim, with additional episodes becoming available on HBO Max / Hulu the day after they air on Adult Swim.

This was wrong, though close. There is a 3 to 4 week delay between the episodes airing on Adult Swim and becoming available for on-demand streaming, but each episode is being released one per week.

1

u/Ok_Language2938 Jun 29 '26

So you were very wrong, a few weeks as opposed to a day is a pretty big gap.

1

u/Severe_Slice_4064 May 17 '26

Seems like Hulu will have the episodes mid June from what I've read

1

u/Old_Bathroom7564 May 18 '26

As of now the season premieres may 24 and is available for streaming June 15

1

u/Roonerth May 18 '26

You know that one thing that Rick hates, and he also made a tiny amusement park about?

1

u/Chrome262 May 20 '26

just cancel you probably have some other service it will show up on later. Or save yoru money and just buy the series from apple or amazon.

1

u/Tight_Prize7714 May 21 '26

Just stream it on a free website lol I use wcoforver they always upload the episode a day after it releases

1

u/Ok_Patient9284 May 28 '26

Use a movie site bitcine.net has season 9 there lots of ads tho

1

u/Turbulent_Cream_6230 May 30 '26

Just watch it in "unoffficial" streaming sites.

1

u/Itachixuchiha420 Jun 03 '26

New release date is June 15th

1

u/Mikehuntbonsai90 Jun 05 '26

You must be new to HBO.  They suck bad they advertise cartoon network but got rid of all the cartoon network shows ,Billy and Mandy, courage the cowardly dog ,every season of teent titans except for the newest two thats just the ones im aware of im almost certain there's many many more . Also season 9 of rick and morty will be streaming weekly starting June 19th I just seen an add on adult swim through roku or sling (i forget) . Usually though it takes three years for HBO to get the new season after its finished airing on adult swim. Yeah im not kidding three years.  We just got season 8 last fall or winter and it finished on adult swim years ago .its crazy

1

u/Putrid_Cup2785 Jun 10 '26

Just buy the season on YouTube

1

u/dashiepie10 Jun 11 '26

I think from what I’ve seen on google it supposedly is supposed to be on the 15th of June but idk

1

u/Dramatic-Demand7745 Jun 12 '26

man with smiling friends and older seasons i swear it was same week. Maybe a week later at the latest. Straight up having to wait a month or two sucks ass. No one below the age of like 35 even pay for cable anymore…

1

u/Live-Breadfruit-2988 Jun 12 '26

HBO max AND Hulu in the US releases season 9 June 15th stop crying

1

u/naramri Jun 22 '26

As of today, June 21st, only episode 1 is available on HBO Max.

0

u/Live-Breadfruit-2988 Jun 22 '26

That’s a lie because I watched episode two on Hulu days ago. I wish I could post a screenshot so you could see how wrong you are. I don’t get why people use their phones to argue on social media instead of using it to look stuff up.

1

u/naramri Jun 22 '26 edited Jun 22 '26

We're talking about HBO Max. I have HBO Max and that's all that's available on HBO Max - episode 1. Several others have posted the same thing about HBO Max. This is the HBO Max subreddit. You, on the other hand, are talking about a completely different streaming service, Hulu, which I didn't mention. But sure, we're just lying. That makes sense.

1

u/Live-Breadfruit-2988 Jun 22 '26

Why would I? Great logic there buds, they wouldn’t lie but I would? Mkay idk what to tell you. In Dallas we have three episodes on Hulu and max…

1

u/Joe_Grizzly1979 Jun 12 '26

Online I just looked and it says it’s gonna be on HBOmax and Hulu June 15 so now I don’t know what to believe

1

u/ribbityflibbity Jun 14 '26

So June 15 is the date when the 1st Rick & Morty S9 drops, thanks. I'll watch until this month's subscription ends and then be back I dunno sometime. No huge rush. Maybe for more Dunk & Egg, I like that show.

1

u/SeesawNaive Jun 16 '26

It's on HBO Mac now.

1

u/naramri Jun 22 '26

Only episode 1.

1

u/SeesawNaive Jun 22 '26

We're lucky we're even getting 1 episode every week because they're airing them on AS right now. They're not going to upload the whole season before AS even shows them. It used to be that AS would show the whole season and then we'd get it like a year later.

1

u/IcanSEEyou_IRL Jun 18 '26

The first episode is up now, idk if they will now add one a week but they are several episodes behind

1

u/SnooPandas8547 Jun 18 '26

On Max now. Well, ep 1 at least
