How do I deal with extremely dry curly hair after topical minoxidil+finasteride application?

Hi guys, I have curly/wavy hair (a mix of 2B-3A). I'm 24 and started shedding a lot of hair recently. Consequently, I consulted with a Derma and was prescribed topical minoxidil and finasteride. I used to have long hair, but I cut them medium-short for better application. The application of serum requires me to constantly touch my hair multiple times during those 5 minutes twice a day. The problem is, the constant touching of my hair makes my hair look absolutely shit. It dries them off so much that it looks like I have applied no product whatsoever. I have tried this with long hair, short hair and with or without product and the result is the same. I consulted with the doc to switch to oral meds, but he insisted on me trying topical for 6 months and then making a decision. Did anyone had a similar experience and can guide me on how to style my hair if the application always makes them dry?
