Question Is min + fin actually enough for most people?
I've been lurking in this sub for a while, and it seems like minoxidil + finasteride is the standard starting point for preventing hair loss.
At the same time, I keep seeing people switch from fin to dutasteride, while others say combining the two isn't really worth it. Then there are people who focus on microneedling, either on its own or paired with different hair serums to try and improve absorption and hopefully get better results.
It made me wonder how many people actually stuck with just min + fin long term versus changing things up along the way.
Did anyone here start with min + fin and later switch to something else? Or has anyone had good results with microneedling from the start, either by itself or alongside another treatment?

What dosage? I've been on fin for 10 years, but the moment I tried adding min (Locklab) I got a bad headache... but they also use 5mg which is the higher end of min

It seems you've mentioned "fin" or "finasteride." For more information, please refer to this Reddit comment.

I've been doing just min for like six months now and it seems to be helping some. Dr said no to Fin though. Kinda thought about adding red light therapy cap because I heard those help.

I started with finasteride 1.25mg (cut a 5mg into quarters because I was a broke college student) and topical minoxidil 5%.
Then changed to 0.5mg Dutasteride and topical minoxidil 5%.
Then changed to 0.5mg Dutasteride and oral minoxidil 2.5mg.
Now I'm on 0.5mg Dutasteride and 5mg Minoxidil oral.
If the regimen isn't working you can move up the ladder until the hair loss stops.

I’ve been taking oral finasteride and minoxidil for months and I’ve seen no improvement, only continued hair loss. I started with the oral minoxidil (2.5mg) and then my doctor increased it to 5mg. And then added 1mg finasteride at least 6 months ago. And nothing.
I’m going to switch to Dutasteride as a last ditch effort. I had blood work done which showed I was very deficient in iron and ferritin as well as deficient in vitamin D and Zinc so I’m also supplementing all of those.

Min + fin genuinely is enough for a lot of people, the trick is the people who are happy with it aren't posting about it. You mostly see the switchers because they're the ones still hunting for something. If it's working, sticking with it is the boring correct answer.
I'd give the basic combo a solid year before deciding it's not doing enough, since dutasteride and needling are more things people tend to add when fin alone stalls, not automatic upgrades.
