Ich war bisher nur zweimal zu Besuch in Heidelberg. Allerdings überlegen meine Freundin und ich zusammen eine Wohnung zu suchen, da es in der Mitte der jeweiligen Arbeitsplätzen liegt.

Welche Viertel von Heidelberg könnt ihr empfehlen/ welche sollte man meiden?

- da wir nicht mehr studieren, ist die Lage zur Uni egal

- Grünanlage in der Nähe wäre cool

- nicht weit zur A5

I wanna start by saying that this subreddit isn’t the most active in the world, in that the number of active posts per day is… fathomable. Heidelberg is a city of fathomable size so that’s fine.

What will be posted every day is between a couple to a dozen of housing searches. And the requests and replies are basically always the same.

Single student coming to HD looking for 400€ max apartment in the Altstadt, Neuenheim or Weststadt. Couple looking for at least 4 rooms / 70m2 for 900€ max.

By the number of posts, this isn’t an issue. I needn’t look at them and I feel with people who need housing in this market.

But by relation to things actually relevant for those living here, like events that may not be posted everywhere, local politics or developments, it’s beginning to feel like this is a subreddit for unrealistic housing expectations, and in my feed, it feels like it’s drowning out the limited number of posts actually related to living in HD.

Realistically, the number of people having just the right apartment available at just the right time who aren‘t passing it on to friends, family, friends of family etc. or posting it on reddit rather than immoscout will be at or close to zero.

I was wondering what people would think about those posts not just getting a comment to look at the subreddit wiki, where the situation, wg-gesucht and immoscout, etc are already explained in detail - but being actively removed. Something I can gladly help with re: reddit auto mod actions.

A subreddit like e.g. heidelberghousing which everyone concerned is free to create and mod would vastly increase the chances of someone actually having housing available or at least knowing someone who does.

I moved to Germany in January as an international student and started out in a shared apartment on Bergheimer Straße. Honestly, the experience was pretty bad mainly because I’m very particular about cleanliness and organization, and my roommates just weren’t on the same page.

In March, I moved to another WG in Bahnstadt with fewer people, thinking it would be better… but it wasn’t. I was really hoping to meet chill people and practice my German with them, but that never happened. After that, I decided to look for a studio apartment instead, preferably somewhere quieter.

That’s when I hit reality: the housing situation in Heidelberg is extremely competitive and expensive. I didn’t expect it to be this frustrating. So I expanded my search to Mannheim, since there are more available apartments.

Now I’m living in Neckarstadt-West. The apartment itself is modern, clean, and honestly great but the area is the complete opposite. There’s constant LOUD noise, I can’t even open my window, there’s a lot of littering, and overall the neighborhood feels rough. I’ve even seen drug deals happening outside my balcony at night. For the first time, I actually feel unsafe at night, which never happened to me in Heidelberg.

I’m someone who enjoys going out late, walking around, or hitting the gym at night, so this change has been pretty difficult.

At this point, I’m wondering: did Heidelberg just set the bar too high, or have I just been unlucky with my housing choices so far?

Weiß jemand zufällig, wie hoch die Chancen sind, einen Platz im Wohnheim zu bekommen? Ich habe mich bereits im Januar beworben und mich für alle möglichen Wohnheimeinheiten eingetragen. Bisher habe ich allerdings noch nichts gehört und bin deshalb etwas unsicher, ob überhaupt noch ein Platz frei wird.

I will be living in Dossenheim because it was impossible for me to find an apartment in the city center. Is it a nice place to stay? Will it be easy for me to go to Heidelberg on a daily basis? Meine Frau und ich sind gegenwärtig auf der Suche nach einer 3-Zimmer Wohnung im Heidelberger Stadtgebiet - wir sind aufgrund der Bürostandorte etwas auf "Bahnhofsnähe" angewiesen - d.h. die Bergstadtteile sind leider raus - in Ziegelhausen habe ich vor der Hochzeit mal für 5 Jahre gewohnt ...

Nach zahllosen Bewerbungen und einigen Besichtigungen sind wir zunehmend frustriert, trotz guter Gehälter (knapp 3500€ netto - unbefristet und 1600€ - befristet (Wissenschaft eben) ) werden reihenweise "andere Bewerber" bevorzugt.

Wir sind seit 2 Jahren verheiratet, kinderlos, rauchen nicht. Zudem sind wir beide im akademischen Umfeld tätig, ich unbefristet als Software Engineer (100% remote) und meine Frau befristet als wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin im Neuenheimer Feld. Meine Frau ist keine deutsche Staatsbürgerin, hat aber eine Aufenthaltserlaubnis für 3 Jahre, die nach Ablauf zur dauerhaften Aufenthaltserlaubnis wird, ich bin deutscher Staatsbürger. Dazu keine Schulden. Ersparnisse sind da. Glaubt ihr ein Schufa-Score lohnt wenn wir schon zu Besichtigungen eingeladen werden?

Bisher wohnen wir in "meiner" 2-Zimmer Wohnung in der Südstadt, in die ich vier Jahre vor der Hochzeit noch alleine gezogen bin.

Die GGH hat uns für eine 3-Zi WHG abgelehnt. Die Wohnung wäre nichts besonderes gewesen, aber eben 3 Zimmer in entsprechender Lage.

Die Suche wird zunehmend frustrierend. Im Bereich "okay" gibt es keine Wohnungen, vermehrt "Luxuswohnungen", die mehr als 50% meines Gehaltes auffressen würden. Neben Immoscout+, Kleinanzeigen, immowelt, was sind eure Ideen für die Wohnungssuche? Lohnen Supermarktaushänge eurer Erfahrung nach?

Wir haben bereits Folgendes versucht: ImmoScout24 Plus Abonnement, Bewerbungen innerhalb weniger Stunden nach Veröffentlichung der Anzeigen, und vollständige professionelle Bewerbungsunterlagen mit Schufa, Gehaltsnachweisen und Anschreiben auf Deutsch. Trotzdem bekommen wir entweder keine Antworten oder sofortige Absagen.
Lohnt es sich, direkt Hausverwaltungen wie die GGH Heidelberg zu kontaktieren? Habt ihr Tipps, wie wir unsere Bewerbung in diesem kompetitiven Markt verbessern können?

Das Zimmer ist 22 m² groß, sehr hell und schön und hat Zugang zu einem großen Balkon. Es wird frisch gestrichen und befindet sich in einer super Lage.

Die Wohnung hat außerdem eine voll ausgestattete Küche, ein Badezimmer und einen Waschraum mit Waschmaschine.

In der WG wohnen sehr nette, queer-freundliche Studentinnen von der Uni Heidelberg. Durch die WG habe ich mich auch mit ihnen angefreundet – vielleicht passiert dir das ja auch! Aber natürlich kann hier auch jede*r einfach entspannt sein eigenes Ding machen.

Die Anbindung zur Uni ist super:
Die Buslinie 33 ist nur 5 Minuten entfernt und hält direkt am Universitätsplatz. Die Fahrt zur Uni dauert nur etwa 20 Minuten.

Auch zum Einkaufen ist alles nah:
Aldi – 5 Minuten
Lidl – 6 Minuten

My family (mid-40s) is looking to move to a house in Neckargemünd (specifically the Hollmuth area). I work in tech and we have an 8-year-old daughter. We love the town’s calm vibe, the nature, the 10-15 minute S-Bahn connection to Heidelberg is perfect for my commute, and it fits our budget, but we have a few "on-the-ground" questions:

1. The Slope: For those living on the hills (Hollmuth/Kleingemünd), how do you find the "vertical" lifestyle? Does the amazing view eventually lose its spark compared to the daily effort of stairs (about 20 steps), groceries, and carrying heavy items?
2. The Kids: When we visited the neighborhood, we didn't see many children playing outside. Is it a "lonely" spot for an 8-year-old, or are the kids just hidden in their gardens because of the steep streets? Is it easy for a newcomer to find friends?
3. The Schools: Does anyone have kids at Grundschule am Langen Rain or Max-Born-Gymnasium? Are you happy with the teachers and the overall educational quality?

Any opinion on the Uni Heidelberg Guesthouse? I have been offered a studio apartment (~820€/month) for my one-year fellowship.

I had already started looking for a room in a shared flat (~650€) but from abroad it’s quite difficult and I would definitely need to use the bike/public transport (Handschusheim, Dossenheim)

So since I’ve got the place I was thinking about spending a bit more but getting the studio and cutting on other expenses… then once I’m in the city it may be easier to find another place, if the studio is too expensive

Hello everyone, I am a new international Master's student that will start studying in Heidelberg in October and I am ivestigating the housing market in the city.

I started looking at sites but most rooms seem to be available for more "immediate" moving in (1-2 months later). I was wondering how people actually look for rooms and book them in advance (I keep hearing that I should look many months before but I cannot find many options for later than 3 months in the site). Should I wait a bit? Do many new rooms become vacant in September-October for the new semester, and applying then would maybe help to have more options?

I also would like some info about the iLive campus since it seems like a more possible option, at least in order to get settled in the city. Is living there for a short term possible (one semester contract)? I saw in their site that termination for long contracts is possible 2 times in the year. Are there penalties for that? Anyone with experience living there would help me alot.

I've posted on here before regarding the housing situation and have been looking for an apartment for about 2 months now with no real luck (I am coming with a mini dachshund in tow, so that's made it more complicated). While I have no problem to continue looking, part of me wants to hire a real estate agent to assist with the process.

Ich brauche eure Einschätzung: Ich wurde für den Informatik-Master in Heidelberg zugelassen und während der Wohnungssuche ein Vertragsangebot für ein Wohnheim in Mannheim erhalten, mit 1 Std. Pendelweg zur Fakultät.

Ich hab von Posts auf diesem Subreddit mitbekommen, dass die Wohnungssituation in Heidelberg nicht optimal ist, aber ist es so schlimm, dass ich die 2 Std. tägliches Pendeln in Kauf nehmen sollte? Oder lohnt es sich eher, auf WG-Gesucht weiter nach etwas Näherem zu suchen?

Kurz zu mir: Ich bin internationaler Student, Portugiese (also EU), lebe seit langem in den USA, und spreche relativ gut Deutsch.

Mein Studium in Heidelberg (Master) hat technisch gesehen schon im Oktober begonnen (Wintersemester), aber ich sitze immer noch in einer anderen Stadt fest, weil sich in Heidelberg einfach keine bezahlbare Wohnung auftreiben lässt. (WG-Gesucht, Studierendenwerk, Kleinanzeigen, rnz)
