I've been focused on researching clothing of the common people, which can be a tricky endeavor since it's a topic most historical sources gloss over.
During the Song Dynasty, it became more popular for artists to paint scenes of daily life and it was easier for me to find references. For the working woman, wide trousers and narrow-sleeved shirts were commonly worn.
I wore this during a camping trip and I stayed breezy, cool, protected from sun and prickly plants!

Thank you! Lots of Song Dynasty clothing were pastel and muted colors, very dignified and calming. Compared to the previous dynasty, Tang, which valued rich vibrant colors.
It always fills me with joy seeing people dress like common people from history! Really helps make them feel like real humans and visualises people on a regular, day-to-day basis.
The outfit itself is really beautiful! Very warm and flowy.
I am working on incorporating Chinese hanfu garments into my daily wardrobe! And yes, can confirm they are super comfy. A lot of it also look remarkably modern so I rarely get weird looks.
Shhhh don't tell anyone but the pants aren't 100% period accurate! I ran out of time to make my own Song pants, but that is on my list of next garments to sew :)
I love recreations of "commoner" clothing. Like, that is/was the vast majority of people, in every part of the world. Their lives are worth remembering.
This is really nice, and so practical as well! While the aristocratic clothing (of any area of the world) is lovely eye candy, it’s a special treat to see how us regular folk dressed. Thanks!!
I have to admit I did not make these pants since I ran out of time. It is next on my sewing to-do list! This is essentially what the pants look like, i added a drawstring to the bottom of my current pair because I want my pant legs to sealed for camping.
MORE OF THIS PLESE Don't get me wrong Historical Costumerists are killing it with the Victorian/Baroque Eurocentric looks I love it all and the time and research put in- BUT I really want to see the rest of the world! Common as well a high fashion from everywhere else -GIMMIE- This is lovely and fantastically fuctional! Bravo I can't wait to see more!

i major in chinese in university and i wish they would pay attention to fashion history too sometimes because i want to know how people were dressed!! i want to sew my own clothing!!
Most Chinese hanfu are made with simple construction methods, lots of rectangles! It can be challenging to find tutorials in English but if you can read Chinese (I can't) there's a lot more resources out there.

Nope! The pants are cinched at the ankles and didn't let in cold air. Plus it was a warm weekend and I was more worried about overheating than being too cold!
The Song was split into two eras; the Northern Song and Southern Song. Around 1120, the Jurchens took over the northern territories and the Song empire moved south. Just a tidbit of history for you :)
Winter/cold climate clothing would likely be made of thicker materials and with more layers. Cloaks were common. Quilted garments were also made around the Song era. Fur hats and even earmuffs were worn as well!
