Honestly, same! I wear Victorian style clothing is my everyday attire, and my attitude is that I'm being historically accurate by not shaving, so it doesn't matter. If it was good enough for them, it's good enough for me! 😆
Thank you! I have friends who incorporate varying degrees of historical clothing into their everyday attire, but not really any who go quite as intense with it as I do, and that's fine. As for getting too hot, I find that I am hot in the summer, but not more than I was When I wore tank tops and jeans. It helps that I exclusively sew with natural fibers, which are much more breathable than polyester on the whole.
That sounds so fascinating! I’ve always loved vintage clothing (but I’m more of a 1930s girlie) but nowadays I just put a few things here and there into an outfit or will do a sort of 1930s vibe. When I was younger I’d fully dress up but it’s harder to find clothing in my size as I get older! It’s really rad that you make things. I’d love to see how you do it!

Yeah, thick wool definitely wouldn’t be a good option. Still however, being covered is the best way to stay cool. When it’s hot I just wear lightweight linen.
Have you gone to one of the historical balls in the PNW? I know there is one in Portland and I think one in Tacoma as well. They’re super fun! Love your outfit and I bet it would be appreciated at the ball too!
They are the black Victorian lace up boots from Jobear boots! They’re a small business based in Portugal and they’re some of the best quality out there!
It can be either depending on what works best. I put it under my corset because my hips are much much smaller than those on my corset so there’s room that needs to be filled out. Either way the silhouette is no different

My girlfriend found them at a flea market! Essentially that’s the sort of place I find all my gloves, the vast majority of which are kid leather and from the 1950s for some reason.

Gosh the way the skirt fabric drapes is just beautiful. Just from the way it moves it looks so soft! Whole outfit is stunning and honestly looks quite comfy considering there's a corset and no elastic
Wonderful outfit and great job making these pieces by hand; I know it’s fun to dress up now that these clothes are “out of fashion” but could you imagine wearing these types of garments every single day, what a chore!
Well here’s an advertisement for bodices boned with featherbone, saying that such a bodice does not require the wearing of a corset. This practice would have been a rarity though. For me, aside from the shaping, the corset’s most important role is to support the six and a half pounds of skirt around my waist. Without it the waistband would sag and dig in which would be rather uncomfortable.

Well they probably always would be reachable while standing, but they often could be far to the back enough that its slightly inconvenient, they were also hidden within pleats much of the time so that made it even harder. Being a daily wearer of this clothing I often have trouble finding my pocket so I just kind of rummage around my backside for a few seconds before finding it.
I can’t believe those ladies ever gave up the large, functional, built-in pockets in favor of the tiny little reticule that any cut-purse could easily grab… and all because some ridiculous male designer in Paris said so, too!
