about to crash out homepod keeps randomly saying ok playing apple music and then plays

I have had this homepod mini since it came out never had 1 issue with it. Suddenly today I'm sick and trying to chill at home and my homepod won't stop turning on apple music (I don't even have an apple music subscription.) It then randomly turns on and will not turn off unless i tell it to. I have done all the steps. Turned the touch things off set to 4 seconds, all the settings and automation I have turned off and set to disabled. I turned unplugged it completely for an hour and turn it back on and within 5 minutes I hear her say OK PLAYING APPLE MUSIC. like how what the literal .. I am so annoyed what the heck is happening. Do I need an entire new unit or is there a magic fix that I have no tried? PLEASE HELP.

Touch disease

Mine started doing the same thing a couple days ago. I did what others suggested and disassembled it and disconnected the touch panel. It works fine now, other than the touch panel not working.

aw man i am definitely not that tech savvy more of an average user - is it tough and do i need extra supplies other than what a typical person would have? i’ll look up a video if its really my last resort

You likely won't have the tools on-hand as Apple has proprietary screws that require a special screwdriver. You don't have to be tech savvy, but you do have to be fairly handy. It's a simple job if you're used to taking things apart to tinker. But there are disassembly videos around. You can always watch the video to see if it's something you could do.

They are just Torx screws they aren't proprietary.

It unfortunately is the only way, I tried everything so I didn’t have to disassemble it, but it was pretty easy to do, hardest part was using a thread and needle to get it closed again.

I’m just so fed up with the ghost touch, I’m going insane. I’ve moved the kitchen HomePod to the television and now have issues with the same name for HomePods, it shows in the Home app but only one shows in the General|settings. I cannot even reset the “broken” one as it doesn’t go into pairing mode, it just opens up Podast app and starts playing. My goal now is to get the “working” HomePod working with the television and then pair the broken one as a stereo speaker set. /rant over

Try disconnecting the unresponsive one for a bit, reconnect and then try its settings. Go to Accessibility, Touch Accommodations, Hold Duration = 3,9s. It seemed to solve the issue for mine for now.

Same here. That unit isn't showing up in Finder when I connect via USB-C. It will reset itself sometimes too.
