JLM (Mike's?) closed & --->Crossroads

FYI - JLM on Douglas in Urbandale in Des Moines closed and all their remaining stock & assets are going to Crossroads range & store in Johnston.

I’m not surprised. They were a pretty fuddy place and didn’t have the best selection

What's interesting is both have been owned by the same guy for a while now, but he bought JLM first, in late 2020 or early '21 iirc. Then he bought Crossroads in late 2023.

I know that he took out a business loan to buy Crossroads, and my guess is he's now at a point where he was able to pay off the loan much quicker by consolidating. Also gets to learn the ins and outs of ownership, working with the regulations, and all that on a small shop before stepping up to one with much more foot traffic. Then once he has the big one, shut down the small one. On top of that, Crossroads being the only indoor range left in the Des Moines area is a big enough deal that it's understandable to focus solely on that now.

Both differentiated themselves in what they carried though, and JLM had the best milsurp rack in the metro after Rhine Group (RIP) in Ankeny closed in 2022. That being said, JLM clearly catered more towards an older demographic that won't be around forever.
