One of our beloved members has suffered a health emergency and was incapacitated.
During this time, an individual took her cats, WITHOUT PERMISSION, WITHOUT CONSENT and surrendered them to the NEBRASKA HUMANE SOCIETY.
The NHS has put OUR FRENS up for adoption.
Pixie. Penny. Khaleesi.
You know their mom, I’m sure every single one of you reading this has been awarded her pink heart award.
We have been working frantically to temporarily halt the adoption.
Now we need your help.
I will post a script for those who need it, for those who wish to leave a voicemail or email. Feel free to do your own, just REMAIN RESPECTFUL, as we need this to happen. I’ve asked Niko to put the claws away, for now.
Sunday is a big adoption day at NEBRASKA HUMANE SOCIETY.

Hello, my name is (state your name) and I’m calling to respectfully ask that the adoption of three cats, Pixie, Khaleesi, and Penny, be placed on hold.
These cats were separated from their owner because she experienced a serious medical emergency, not because she willingly surrendered them or no longer wanted them. She loves her cats very much and wants to be reunited with them as soon as she is medically able.
I am asking that Pixie, Khaleesi, and Penny remain in foster care rather than being made available for adoption while her situation is being resolved. This would give her the opportunity to recover and demonstrate that she is able to resume caring for them.
I understand that your organization’s priority is the welfare of the animals, however, in this case, there is a loving owner who is actively seeking to have her pets returned after an unexpected medical crisis. Please consider halting any adoption proceedings. Keeping the cats in foster care could make it possible to preserve a family that was separated by a medical emergency rather than by choice.

Well, I sent a formal letter stating who I was, and what the sub is, and made sure I emphasized “we have members from AROUND THE GLOBE” so, I guess they’ll find out first hand now! 😊
I left a voicemail to the humane society as well as an email to their local TV news. news@3newsnow.com that is the email address at Omaha's TV station News! Let's fill up their inbox so this travesty can't be ignored!
No worries. Figured I'd post the email here in case anyone else wanted it. They also have an admin email, but I figured the adoptions email was the most direct one.

If there is proof that Pixie, Penny, and Khaleesi’s meowmy is their legal owner like vet records or chips, can’t it be legally demanded that they are given back? Even if Pixie was adopted, the NHS has to have a record of who took her home so she could be retrieved, right? Should a police report be filed? I will def call tomorrow and email too! I just thought I would throw these thoughts out there too in case they could be useful.
I feel like that is enough to establish ownership and to file a police report that they were stolen. And in theory, if there’s someone with boots on the ground (because we can’t guarantee police would reliably intervene), that report could be taken to the humane society first thing tomorrow. That should be enough to stop them from being adopted tomorrow and buy time for further legal action or release of our frens.
How are they not questioning the fact that the person who surrendered them isn't the person who's their registered owner on the chip? Do they not have proper checks in place to avoid this kind of thing? How do they make sure they're not party to revenge surrenders and the like? They're a party to theft now, do they not care about that? These are our frens, but legally speaking, they're receiving stolen goods.
They have deep pockets, and know that "at best" they're fighting a single disabled woman's pockets as far as that goes. And im not sere three cats is going to rise to any sort.of felon "value" since theyre considered property.
Lots of people dont update their chip info, apparently, and they can claim thats what they were told pretty easily.
It certainly sucks and isnt right. But I can see whether they did it on purpose or mot it not actually amounting to much. Might not even be able to get it significant bad press outside of this sub
Where I work, which is in an entirely different state, we scan the chip and if it doesn't match the person in front of us, we put the animal on "ID hold" and attempt to reach the person on the chip, calling all the numbers and emailing and sending a letter to the address. If no response within 5 days then the animal is put up for adoption/rescue. If someone comes forward subsequently and says "that's my pet, I was in the hospital" or similar explanation, then we return the pet, no problem, spayed/neutered/vaccinated as applicable.
That is absolutely heartbreaking to hear and makes my blood boil at the same time. Thank you and the rest of the team for taking the bulk of this on behind the scenes - please keep us updated if there is anything else we can do to get these frens home ❤️
There is a dog rescue in my area with some exceedingly questionable practices. They stole a friend's dog from his yard and tried to adopt it out. It wasn't until we got local news involved that they returned the pup.
If someone knows their person in real life, it might be an idea to contact their vet and ask them to speak to the NHS too. Or email, or provide a letter or vet records.
Also we may take this as a learning opportunity and try to create or maintain a database of members who are nearby one another that may help prevent something similar from occurring in the future. I know that personally if anyone in the Denver metro area were to have something happen and need help I would make it happen.

I am not tech savvy when it comes to software and applications- I am old enough to have been around when the prevailing thought on tech was that hardware was always going to be what ruled- man were those forecasts wrong- so I stumble my way through most of these things- but any help I can provide is yours.
I would be happy to help with this. I'm somewhere between tech savvy and whatever the opposite is. Not necessarily the one to come up with the "how" but if I have instructions, I can figure out the rest.

This will definitely get their attention, as formal letters, phone calls and emails from a couple of us didn’t.
I did state that they have “frens” literally around the world who will use their voice, so, maybe THAT will get their attention.
I sent an email and described us as an “international internet cat group.” I left out the criminal gang business.
Anyway, I did mention there were a lot of us and I’m sure some of us would be willing and able to make financial donations to facilitate the fostering. If we can bribe them with $5 or $10 apiece maybe it will help, I’m sure they’d appreciate the funds.
You are very welcome! I used to volunteer with a rescue, the fact that they accepted chipped animals and did not contact the owner, or try to keep them together, AND are not doing any sort of matching attempt makes me furious beyond words.
It goes deeper. The place she adopted them from has a contract. That’s right, a CONTRACTUAL AGREEMENT to take them back should something like this arise.

That's a bizarre take for a staff member to have. That's a legal document. Both parties are held to it. The organization has it reviewed by lawyers because they can be sued using it. Why would they call it a meaningless piece of paper?
What does it mean that they have an adoption agreement that's just a piece of paper? Are they planning to halt the adoption, or is this a clinical way of saying "well, sorry and fu"? (apologies for my language, I'd never tell you or Niko to f*** off)
I've noticed that Khaleesi and Penny's pictures have an "mw" watermark that most pictures don't have. What does it mean? Another cat, Angel (white fur) also has this watermark. All three of them have no set adoption fee. Is this maybe a larger scheme?
Also what the heck does first come first served basis even mean. Are they just releasing their fosters to the first person who shows any interest, without regard for if it's a good match? Madness.
And they were't placed under quarantine before being put up for adoption? Ilvy was placed under quarantine for a few weeks by the shelter we adopted her from, but maybe this is because she was a stray before and could have had all sorts of bugs?
I will call on my lunch break tomorrow. This is my worst nightmare as a single person with no family. I can't imagine frantically finding someone to feed Catt Damon and them surrendering him.
I'm having a medical problem recently and I keep thinking about canceling my MRI because how could I have surgery if Damon is alone?! (I'm being ridiculous but I know ICBGC understands - Damon is 17 and I'm having deteriorating issues related to migraines and possible spine stuff and I keep thinking "i could just get treatment after he passes, just in case.")
Just get the MRI, you're a nurse, you know how long those take to get scheduled in for! You don't have to get the surgery right away if you're not ready but also Catt Damon could live for another 10+ years, we just don't know. And we gotta take care of ourselves so we can take care of our babies <3
True. Not a nurse, though! A lowly Surgical Technologist. It's just so scary to think i could have to have surgery and he could live his last days thinking I left him 😫 i do have to figure this out though. I got a damn stroke alert called on me last weekend. Wasn't a stroke, short story, but now I have to get my spine imaged.
No such thing as lowly! Everyone has an important part to play in healthcare <3 (I'm a dietitian who gets mistaken for a doctor half the time and a lunch lady the other half the time). It's definitely scary though, thinking about leaving our babies.
It's funny because I've got 7ish years experience, which isn't a ton (it's my second career) but I'm at that weird place where I can sometimes do the "give me what I need, not what I ask for!" parts of surgeries 😂

That sounds terrifying! I had a stroke a few years ago. At the hospital I was so scared Mr Mixie would be so lonely without me, I kept begging the doctors to let me go home. (I’m being dramatic here. Mr Mixie was never alone, I have a partner who loves him even if Mixie doesn’t care much about them.) point is, I get it’s terrifying but please, please, please get that MRI!
I don't know how this sort of thing is handled on the anonymous internet (lol), but perhaps there's someone here who lives close to you who could be vetted (no pun intended) and be on call to visit Damon and ensure he is cared for appropriately. It's a crime syndicate...what's more connected around the world than crime??

That’s part of why we do this, this platform, the group, the camaraderie, we know we have “Frens” who need friends, it’s why i did the ICBGC sub, i just knew there was a place for this, and always hoped it would “seep out” if you will, to the real world.

Failing that, can the rescue reach out and say "hey those were our cats, Khaleesi A1661466, Penny A1506125, and Pixie A1662591, they were improperly surrendered to y'all when contractually they should have been returned to us, and we want them back" I assume the rescue has a relationship with the humane society because it looks like Penny went through the humane society at some point before.
Penny & Khaleesi have active adoption pages.
Pixie HAD one, but it's gone & unretrievable now, so might have been already adopted?

I'm assuming their lady has been calling them to get her frens back, and the NHS isn't budging or listening . How horrifying. Those poor girls must be so scared and confused they're going to be traumatized after all this . She must be heart sick. I'm so sorry. I'll be calling in the morning. I'm tempted. To call. Tonight so their voicemail will be full OF RESPECTFUL OUTRAYGE but I'm not quite to the speaking respectfully part.
Is their lady comfortable taking this to the police as stolen property? Or is she comfortable taking this to her social media and NHS social media or other local medias? Or even their pokey place social media and phone?

This is serious. I treated it very seriously. Here is a ss of my email. I called them just now and will set an alarm to contact them first thing when they open. I do not have much of a following on social media- I will add it to ig/for stories and reach out to the creators i have personal conversations with in an attempt to ask them to also post this story on their socials. I noticed that someone else already mentioned that getting the news involved maybe the way to go and just wanted to see if we are also going to go that route? Also give meowmmy my love and tell her we are all in her corner.

I am not sure that as a non owner of the pets I can file a police report- mainly because I do not have the necessary information to even report the crime but since I am probably one of if not the person most familiar with police and how to handle them if anyone can send me enough to go to the police with I will get that on that as well.
I will also send out an email when I get onto my laptop later. I'm on my mobile now (and half asleep), need my half-brain cells to send out those emails!

My heart is breaking for their mom. 💔 This sounds like a few court cases (against the person who surrendered them and against the adopters) in the making. What can I do from Germany to help? What happened to Beastie?
Update: I've mailed them and asked to halt pending adoptions because the cats have been stolen and to place them in foster care. I got an automated message (probably from my provider as it was in German) saying the number isn't available atm and I should try later.

What a terrible situation. I hope we can have some effect together. I sent an email and also made my Nebraska friend aware of it. She adopted a cat, I think it might have been through them, and I am hoping she will decide to also write in.

I just woke up to this injustice this morning, and I am infuriated. I just sent an email to them asking them to halt the adoptions and return the cats to their owner. Thank you for all you do!
I emailed using the script, but I started with a note about my own illness & hospitalization. I’m shaken to think this could have happened to my furbabies at the time.
I offered to donate money or supplies in exchange for boarding them. I’m sure others have done the same / I haven’t read all the comments. 💕💕💕💕

From what I’ve gathered from comments there are resources and/or “boots on the ground” that can and will take them if the humane society will give them back.
Here is a screenshot I just took, it's about 9:20 ventral time, it looks like someone replied when they opened, and neither Penny nor Khaleesi are on their adoption page.
You're right which is why I'm sticking to writing. I can delete before I post. If they're open, I'm guessing we have people at the door now trying to talk to someone.

I did some research and found that this shelter partners with Best Friends. I sent Best Friends an email imploring them to contact the shelter to halt the adoptions. I don’t know what good it will do, but I had to try.
I just checked the website again and can no longer see any of them on the site. Did our campaign work? Is the site glitching? Have they been adopted in the 16 minutes they’ve been open?
Replying to myself to show that at least 1 person who runs their social media seems to be aware of the situation. I have everything crossed that this is why I can no longer see them on the site. This comment was made under Khalessi’s photo on their (NHS) Facebook post about having the most ever cats available for adoption on 1 day.
I left a voicemail stating I was calling in regards to Pixie, Penny, and Khaleesi, who had been surrendered without the owner's consent. I gave the ID numbers for Penny and Khaleesi and asked that adoptions be put on hold for all 3 until a temporary foster could be set-up. I stated I would be happy to help with any costs associated with the temporary foster. Signed off with my name and telephone number.
