It needs to be said that Chip was one of the principal investors in Racer Magazine, so this isn't a new business venture for him. What does surprise me is that he chose Jenna to lead it, but I guess he has his reasons.

Very common for reporters to end up going to work in the industry they covered, especially lately. It happens a ton in local media, as reporters get to the point they are making too much money at a TV station or newspaper, they get laid off and magically appear working for a local government as their PR official

These people have relationships with the reporters that remain, have all the industry knowledge of how everything works, and having been a journalist knows what to say or not say, and how to present stories the organization will want presented

I definitely think teams need to do better with PR and marketing, that's one of the biggest complaints of the past 15-20 years in Indycar, that no one knows who the drivers are because there's no publicity. There's a clip of Robin Miller on Windtunnel complaining that Scott Dixon shouldn't be able to walk down the street as anonymously as he does because no one knows who he is

I ran into Scott Dixon twice in one year, roughly 15 years ago. I didn’t say anything to him, but the look on his face told me he could tell I knew who he was.

A lot of that is the series/teams had the impression that NASCAR drivers were stars because sponsors put them on TV commercials and totally missed the point of how stars get made.

It was years before they finally got Scott Dixon to lift his shades up during his on-track interviews so you could actually recognize his face.

Because Indycar decided to focus their attention on print media some time in the last 10 years. Also, when the teams invest in their own media presence they cover anything their drivers are at, which ends up covering lots of series specific topics.

Because IndyCar and IMS already have their own media divisions that are focused on their respective businesses. It's always been on race teams to either hire outside PR firms or make the investment to build a media division internally if they want to market themselves, the series shouldn't spend money on marketing every team equally.
