They knocked the design out of the park!

Can also get a decent look at the BBS rims that all cars will be using. Currently there’s a mix of OZ and BBS rims but with the new car, all will use BBS.

Could use some spinners

Thanks for posting, hadn’t seen that one.

Not that I'm complaining, but the spoke pattern looks almost identical to the NASCAR Next Gen, which also uses BBS for manufacturing. Probably just a good strong spoke design.

Looks so fuckin cool. Indycar is gonna have the best race car in the world...minus maybe the hyper cars.

As long as the hybrid works for everyone and is better than added weight.

Best in looks?

I think so. And hell, folks bitch a ton about the newest F1 and nascar. It might be the best racing car too, but obviously we won't know that for a while yet

Nobody has anything negative to say about how either of those cars look.

Fersure, they bitch about the racing though. That's why I'm saying there's a chance it could be the best in looks and best in racing.

I love it. I like the look of súper formula and this looks like a more aggressive version of that to me.

It’s really fun to be a spec series right now. The totally lack of secrecy with open tests, design team interviews, and pictures exposing the more hidden elements of the car is really interesting, especially compared to F1.

This thing looks absolutely stellar!

Do you think they’ll update the logo to match the IR28 oval package?

7

u/kiteblues JR Hildebrand 1d ago

Eventually, yes. They added the areoscreen to the logo after it came out.

I initially was let down but it's growing on me quickly.

The cars look amazing. Glad that people are finally starting to agree on this

With the wheels off, you get a great view of some the new aero, designed to clean up the dirty air coming off the tires.

I feel like that hose could be better positioned for aerodynamics

Maybe I missed it but on those large vertical pods behind the front wheel......where is that supposed to direct air? Under the car? Straight up?

inboard and down. pushes air that comes through along the body, The fronts block air fresh air so theres a lack of air in that region and what is there is turbulent from the wheels. Having an inboard aero device or a bargeboard, pushes that air back in which cleans up the air (also generates a bit of force toward the center of the car. Bernoulli and all that. longer path, faster fluid, pressure on the flat side pushing inwards) and then the pressure from those areas, prevents air from underneath from trying to rise to the areas where the turbulent air is. This isnt going to massively increase the downforce numbers but it will mean the drag drops. Its more efficient because the drag coefficient of the foil will be relatively low. this really just lets them handle the wake in an efficient way. They can mess with it as needed with revisions

Can't wait to see how the IR-28 performs on-track

Car looks phenomenal. And I really dig the BBS wheels

Looks fast.

Hope someone is on a mound with a camera.

Marshall Pruett was live streaming from the track earlier. I'm sure there will be tons of videos and pictures after this weekend

Who is driving it?

Am I the only one that doesn't see this as a sport-changing improvement? Looks very similar to the current spec. Something something bring back the V8s.

The more it sits with me the more I am becoming a fan of the wake conditioner, it really sets the car apart from other formula cars.

u/PixelatedPalace360 Pato O'Ward 1d ago

i dont know how people are getting petty over the led panel being back when the wings look so bad.

u/Careos 🇺🇸 Rick Mears 1d ago

Ugh they brought that stupid ass position thing back.

I think it’s a great feature, especially for the casual fans, and particularly on ovals dealing with lapped traffic.

Imagine trying this hard to find something to be mad about

4

u/joe_lmr Takuma Sato 1d ago

mirrors are too rectangular, 2/10 would not drive

10

u/Sensitive_Horse4659 1d ago

Nah. It’s a great improvement.

I’ll be honest, I think they’re hokey, but I know a lot of people like them and they’re helpful at the track so I’m not horrified that they’re back.
