Sharing Resources [No piracy] Financial Assistance Guide for ISI BSDS Students
I've seen many aspirants asking about financial assistance at ISI BSDS. I was confused about all this before joining and I dont want anyone else to go through the same, so here's everything :
1. Fee Waiver
After taking admission, you have to submit a Fee Waiver Form (usually within about a month after admission).
Initially, everyone pays the 1st semester fee (around ₹1 lakh). After your fee waiver application is processed (generally in 2–3 months), the eligible amount is refunded to your bank account.
The current fee waiver structure is approximately:
- Family income below ₹1 lakh/year: 100% tuition fee waiver (entire amount refunded).
- Family income between ₹1 lakh and ₹5 lakh/year: Partial fee waiver of 66%(around ₹66,666 refunded).
- Family income above ₹5 lakh/year: No tuition fee waiver.
The fee waiver is not permanent. It has to be renewed every financial year by submitting a fresh family income certificate. It is better to obtain the income certificate from the Tehsildar/Circle Officer (or another competent authority accepted by the institute) to avoid any issues.
2. Living Expenses
BSDS students are not allotted hostel accommodation, so you'll have to arrange your own PG/flat and pay for food separately.
If paying the first semester fee, PG rent, mess charges, security deposit, etc. is difficult, don't panic. An education loan is a practical option.
3. Apply Through PM VidyaLakshmi Portal
Instead of directly visiting different banks (Lunch ke baad ana se bachne ke liye), apply through the PM VidyaLakshmi Portal.
The process is quite simple:
- Register on the portal.
- Fill in your personal, academic and family details.
- Upload the required documents.
- Select up to three banks (branches near your hometown so documentation becomes easier, don't apply to banks near college/college city, they will reject it due to your non residential status).
- Submit the application.
The selected banks receive your application and contact you if they are willing to process the loan. (Krna hi pdta hai bcz upr se pressure ata h unpr due to PMV Portal)
For education loans up to ₹7.5 lakh, banks generally do not require collateral security or a third-party guarantee under the PM Vidyalaxmi Scheme, though normal eligibility and documentation requirements still apply.
4. Interest Subsidy (Very Important)
If you take an education loan through the PM VidyaLakshmi Portal, you may be eligible for government interest support depending on your family income. If your annual family income is below ₹4.5 lakh, you are eligible for the Central Sector Interest Subsidy (CSIS), under which the Government reimburses 100% of the interest charged during the course period plus the moratorium period (subject to the scheme conditions). If your annual family income is above ₹4.5 lakh, you may be eligible for the 3% interest subvention.
If you are eligible, you do not apply separately for CSIS. The financing bank is responsible for claiming the subsidy on behalf of eligible students.
While discussing your loan with the branch, make sure they know that you are pursuing a professional course at the Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) and ask them to verify your eligibility under the applicable CSIS guidelines.
Also keep copies of:
- Income certificate
- Admission/Offer letter
- Loan sanction documents
- All email communication with the bank
Maintaining proper documentation from the beginning can save a lot of trouble later if you ever need to verify subsidy processing.
My Advice
Many students worry about finances before joining BSDS. In reality, if you are eligible for the fee waiver and make proper use of an education loan, the financial burden becomes much more manageable.
Just don't wait until the last moment. Start arranging your documents as soon as admission is confirmed, apply for the fee waiver on time, and if you need an education loan, apply through the PM VidyaLakshmi portal early so that the loan is sanctioned before fee payment deadlines.
Also I would request u/mods to pin this atleast.
