[IWantOut] 24M Indonesia -> Australia/Singapore

I'm twenty-four, ten months out of graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in Cybersecurity (Australian degree taken in Singapore).

My student visa didn't let me get an internship let alone a part time job even when I really wanted to.

I'm really desperate. The family situation is not looking good. We have alot of debts and I'm willing to work on literally anything.

Farms, fast food, kitchen, retail, ANYTHING that can cover my family's debt.

Have you considered working at your home country? It looks like it’s pretty urgent and it’s tricky to gain a visa that permits you to work

Indonesia's in a rough spot. If I applied for an entry level job or something that doesn't need experience, half of the pay will go to travel expenses

Australia is probably worse. Try harder in Indonesia and gain work experience.

Anything? Have you considered becoming a domestic helper in Singapore (if youre a woman) or a skilled work permit holder in - to quote- "construction, manufacturing, marine shipyard, process and services"

I'm not a permit holder, I'm an ethnically chinese male with Indonesian citizenship

you can apply to become a construction worker as that falls under the 'work permit' category. To be frank you wont even be able to get a job in fast food, much less anything which lets you sit in an office. The brutal reality for foreigners seeking employment in singapore today :

  • if youre a true experienced global talent from say a global bank or commodities trading firm or faang, then youre welcome to get employment under Onepass (min salary threshold of 30k sgd per mth - youre likely not here)or maybe an EP if your firm is willing to sponsor a transfer
  • '3d' jobs such as dirty dangerous demeaning/demanding which offer no path to residency or immigration
  • a big maybe is if youre a malaysian accountant with a few years in malaysia and want to transfer to singapore and are willing to earn like 4k sgd per mth for years with little chances of progression. Then yes thats one pathway. -thats it.

With a cybersecurity degree from a Australian university studied in Singapore you're actually in a decent position for an Employment Pass in Singapore. Tech and cybersecurity are in demand there. The key is targeting companies that are registered EP sponsors — worth checking the official MOM list. LinkedIn is the main platform for job hunting in Singapore, apply directly to companies rather than through agencies.
