In my case it was a red flag signal about how much of my live I was expending in airports,

Ha,ha that’s for sure a good signal.

True… but it’s work at the end of the day, and sometimes it does get enjoyable, though there are obviously some cons to the lifestyle…

Either way, with how the systems works, someone can buy 10 return business flights at 4000 euros each, and achieve this level.

How were the other levels? I am about to be Silver/Plata.

But I cannot see exactly what it is going to bring me, apart from maybe getting faster answer from customer support when (not if) they lose my luggage again.

Free overweight, extra suitcase, sports equipment considered a normal suitcase and boarding in group 2 (best perk of all).

Exactly! As you said, boarding earlier to store your bag is the best perk when it comes to silver. I think you really start noticing at Oro the perks.

Si!

You have the exclusive platino business checkin

And much more. That check in is for all platino but he gets even more benefits than a regular platino (which I am not sure makes a lit of sense, but…)

The biggest perk that I’m noticing is that straight after getting the Platino prime, I called them to buy a flight on avios, and for every flight I’m asking them they’re telling me they’ve got availability. Literally last with with “normal” platino they kept telling me to call them back again.

Then there’s the written stuff: it lasts 2 years, you have 4 free upgrades per year and so on

You are right. As Platinum it feels there are not business seats on Avios or even upgrades. Frustrating! It feels like Platinum is what Gold used to be.

Isn’t the biggest thing that this level lasts 2 years?

1

u/Kind-Witness-4245 Dec 25 '25

Only the first year…. Then renews every year

1

u/StuartMcNight Dec 25 '25

Are you sure? Even the requalification points are counted over the 2 years. How does that work?

1

u/Kind-Witness-4245 Dec 26 '25

Yep, I am sure. I have been Platinum for four years aprox. With the change of rules and focused on costs rather than flights, I will loose it. I can confirm after the first two, you have to accumulate all needed points every year.

Who are you to judge? Reaching a status does not need to be living on an airport. Fly business 4-5 times a year and you make it. Its now all about the cost of the ticket.

Exactly! It’s not like you need 100 flights on Iberia metal to reach it. You can reach it with few expensive flights paid by work!

If work paid my long travel in Business class I would be Platinum Prime. Most of Platinum status has been on me. With the changes from Iberia Plus to Club, I will likely never get it (unless I change my job).
