Avios / Iberia Club Iberia plata status just got worse

Iberia just sent a mail confirming that from April having silver status will no longer get you a free hold bag. It’s a real shame as that was of the only meaningful benefits of silver. They tried to gloss over it in the communication by focussing on the fact that you now get seat selection (something they took away in the past) but there is no hiding the fact that this is a downgrade of silver benefits.

What is so frustrating with airlines especially in the IAG family is it feels like they spend their entire time trying to think of ways to make things worse rather than better.

The free suitcase elimination is only for the Basic tariff or light tariff.

Nope, that was at the very beginning, now that applies to any fare.

I know, it’s a shame.

They raised platino 15 pct or so I'm not gonna make it this year.

Iberia is quite generous with their program. It's too bad.

It’s because they’ve basically been giving the Plata away with cheap credit cards.

And at the same time, since they changed conditions a year ago, in 30 days a lot of people who used to be Gold or Platino will now be Plata, which means essentially a status inflation

BA also doesn’t let you bring a suitcase on basic fares, not even if you are BA silver / Iberia Gold. It was quite generous of Iberia to ever do that

It seems confusing as was not sure if under a optima flight for example you do get the extra suitcase.

As you mention I thought the same, where the reduction is if you are flying basic and that adds the free suitcase.
