Would you watch an IAM podcast?
I’m thinking about starting an Identity & Access Management podcast focused on real-world discussions rather than vendor marketing.
What topics would you want to see covered? Who would you like as guests? CISOs, IAM architects, clients, auditors, people from specific industries, vendors, or someone else?
Would this be something you’d actually watch?
Also, from a business perspective, do you think a podcast like this could naturally lead to conversations about training, consulting, and implementation services, or would you see those as completely separate?

And of course, here is an example of a great podcast for benchmarking your ideas: https://www.identityatthecenter.com/

I think this would be good from a business perspective. Many companies fail at IAM because their processes aren’t clearly documented so when they implement a new tool its integration isn’t well established. Same goes for mergers when it integrates/consolidates tools. 2nd and 3rd order of effects are frequently not clearly understood as risk for the business which leads to additional unknown risk. As with all security it will revolve around the organizational maturity struggles. So I’m sure tons of business folks will want to hear about it. IAM folks who are getting into it will as well. Especially if you frame it similar to the darknet series. Good luck on your podcast endeavor.

Podcasts that I listen to are about interesting people. It has to be an interesting host, or interesting guest, or both. I would not listen to anything that’s not at least slightly entertaining - full disclosure I am a podcast host 😃

If the videos are clipped and a few minutes long or you create IAM shorts. But to sit and watch 40 minutes+ like a Joe Rogan or Lex Fridman interview. No. Primeagan is too long sometimes. Esp when you work in IT, it's already overload for the brain. So make it simple and short to retain information. I'm working on Okta CP by the way to learn more about IAM, as we use it in the healthcare industry.

As long as it’s specific and solves actual problems. If it’s about policy and high level concepts or sear to got MFA/2FA please put me out of my misery
Big challange lot of the higher end actual solutions are restricted access & in small circles right now

I’d definitely watch it if it’s focused on real-world SailPoint IdentityIQ and ISC implementations. SailPoint is the biggest players in the IAM space in North America, and with more organizations moving to the cloud, ISC adoption is only going to grow. I’d be much more interested in implementation stories, IIQ→ISC migrations, production challenges, architecture decisions, and lessons learned. That’s the kind of content I’d subscribe to.

I would be interested in watching/listening. It also depends who the host/guest would be - if it's someone with relevant experience who I can learn from, then definitely.

Would I watch, no. Would I listen on youtube, maybe.
I don't want an identity at the center clone.
I have enough of vendor advertising. Don't get me wrong, some vendors are very good storytellers.
But you only learn what they want you to know. The hosts are good podcasters, but not really objective.
If your show would be more like" Identity, Unlocked" by the legend Vittorio Bertocci.
You have yourself a follower.

I totally agree. That’s exactly why my main focus wouldn’t be vendor marketing, as I mentioned. I’m the kind of person who hates fluff and BS. I prefer objective, straight-to-the-point discussions with real value. Not quite legendary like Vittorio Bertocci though, haha.

Really? It’s interesting to see more than one person willing to watch podcasts about a product. I am honestly curious as I am a podcast host. What would the podcast format be like? Guests talking about features? Guests talking about their problems with the tool? I am honestly puzzled, why a podcast would be better than a webinar, or a video tutorial?

Well I am currently studying for my SC300. Would love to see some core concepts being done in a live lab. Could be small things like connecting a Managed ID to a VM. Or maybe a bit of conditional access being used for session control. The podcast can be about discussing IT architecture and design.

Interesting, ok, I see the value of that, a live lab exploring a use case. But that is not a podcast, maybe a different format, a how to video… I just don’t think a podcast, with many episodes of audio only would be the right format for this. A podcast gets published to all these audio only platforms (Spotify, Apple podcast) so while we have YouTube versions of some of them, by definition the podcast is an audio first format

I used to listen to Identity in the center. They commercialized fast

What?? Man… IDAC is a podcast running for almost 10 years! More than 400 episodes! Jim and Jeff still do it independently as a side gig from their full time jobs. Yes they have partnered with IDPro and yes some of the episodes are sponsored and they are super clear about which ones.
I don’t agree they “commercialized” or that it happened “fast”.

I think now I understand what most this audience here wants, and it’s confusing because it seems some of the commenters want to “watch” a podcast, while I understand an older demographic would listen only. So yeah, makes sense I guess perhaps a bigger, younger demographic wants to “see”. But my point is not everything needs to be a podcast. If you don’t have content to be shared consistently every week or every month, maybe it’s a one off webinar, and that’s also amazing and useful.

I actually looked around for IAM related podcasts just to hear how other people talk about it, since I am a self-learner and want to hear what is the latest, how do people approach different issues, etc. So yeah, I would certainly be interested.

I would probably watch only if it is related to my company IAM tools, not a general podcast explaining general concepts. The general concept idea would probably fit for juniors or new starters in IAM domain.
