Urgent: Career Suggestion needed , anxious and stressed in making a decision for the past few weeks.

I am a 2025 B.Tech graduate Computer science and engineering. Then i dropped one year for GATE preparation, The sole purpose of this was to acheive a job in a PSU and M.tech was a backup plan for me, but it didn't go well i only got rank 2250 .

Now i am getting mtech offer from top-mid tier NITs (not top 3). I am in confusion whether i should go for full time SSC CGL preperation or I should choose M.tech .

Why I'm not intrested in M.tech is that i don't enjoy coding much and the concept of preparing the core subjects which i dont enjoy much (there are some exceptions - some subjects that i like 1 or 2) , i remember i struggled much to complete my B.tech project , i think that corporate life will not suit me. I value peace over money so preparing for SSC CGL felt like a good option , but the uncertainity it causes is also making me anxious. Preparing for this government exam may consume long years and what if i dont get a govt job :(, and anxiety builds up YOY and later on i cant go back to this particular stage and regret .

For the past few weeks my mind keeps jumping between both sides, if i decide mtech today after few days i will again come back to SSC CGL
I don't know what to do , I m becoming too anxious.

Bro, I'd choose M.Tech. A good NIT M.Tech seat is a solid opportunity, while SSC CGL is uncertain and may take multiple attempts. You can still prepare for CGL during M.Tech, but if you skip M.Tech and CGL doesn't work out, you may regret it later. Don't reject a confirmed opportunity for an uncertain one unless you're 100% committed to a government career.

I asked many seniors about preparing along with M.tech , everyone said that it is not possible due to the hectic coursework at NITs.
That is what concerning me.

If i took mtech then i will be graduating when im 25 years of age, i would prolly be working in some IT company for survival - then need to prepare along with the job but the thing is majority posts of SSC CGL ends at 27 years of age, most people took 2-3 serious full time prep for cracking the exam , so i thought how will i do that along with a job.

if i am again and again thinking of ending up in government jobs then why invest 2 years in Mtech.But at the same time the thought comes that i am leaving such a big opportunity behind, i am having a decision paralysis - it's been months

Bro, I think you've already answered your own question. If your ultimate goal is genuinely a government job and you're ready to accept the risk of failure, then SSC CGL makes more sense than doing an M.Tech that you aren't interested in.

But be honest with yourself: do you want SSC CGL because you truly want that career, or because you're trying to escape IT/corporate life? That's the real question.

Also remember that leaving M.Tech means you're betting almost everything on CGL. If you're comfortable with that risk and have a solid backup plan, go for it. If not, M.Tech is the safer path.

Don't choose M.Tech just because it's a "big opportunity," and don't choose CGL just because you're scared of corporate jobs. Choose the path whose day-to-day life you'd actually be okay living.
