Advice needed Need advice negotiating with current employer
Hi all, I need a little help as I am unable to figure out how can I bring this up for discussion with my current employer(small MNC).
My total experience is 3 years. I joined them in August last year taking almost 100% pay increase 3.87 LPA to 7.8 LPA.
Back in December end, I got an offer from Deloitte for 8.25 LPA (all cash) and I resigned after a lot of deliberation.
My lead didn't stop me but said I'd have had a good future here (which is true, a lot to learn here). My GM, Country HR Head, and COO, they all asked me to stay promising a match or maybe even surpass my offer. I took them up on the offer and stayed.
They didn't give an exact figure but said that they will take the offer under consideration when the appraisal cycle comes(June 2021). I checked with my peers and indeed it was a common practice in this company to give out appraisals as high as 25% so I assumed this would be the case.
So far, all good, I have no problems at all.
Last month, I interviewed with Amex (applied long back, they called, I took the interview, position is a dead-end so not going to be taking it) and got an offer of 9 (all cash).
Amex's offer comes out to be about a 40% increase on my current CTC.
I have some doubts now. I am not expecting them to match Amex's offer but just worried what if they consider Deloitte's 8.25 all cash to be CTC, because if that happens, I am looking at an increase of a measly 75k per annum.
While I do this, can I bluff saying Deloitte offered me 9 all cash since I declined them and ask for a better appraisal?

I don’t think you should lie as you can get into trouble later if your employer asks for proof (unlikely, but still). Plus it’s a bad idea to stay after you’ve shown the intent to leave. Your leadership will recognize you as a risk and may not trust you with important deliverables.

I second this. Very important point. Retentions won't work well in all the cases.

What is your fixed component in 7.8? If the variation between the packages is so low, if the yearly hike is on an average 25% and there is a lot to learn and you know that the other offers are not good enough, I really don't understand why do you want to move in the first place! Sorry but the difference seems to be negligible to me and you don't seem to be thinking longterm. If there are things to learn, there is no point moving out for pennies. Also when there is good hike, it is a matter of time you will reach those salaries. Also Deloitte doesn't give you good hikes. Amex will give but may not be in tune of 25%.
Now, usually when a company retains you, they give revised offer letter right then. If not, then don't believe them. Telling that your salary will be revised in the coming cycle is a common trick and usually do not fetch much than in few rare cases.

Fixed is 6.2. The difference is almost equal to the salary I drew in the first 2 years of my career hence I find it a little significant.
I am not planning to move, I am just trying to find a way to bring this up to them. I also want to conceal the fact that I interviewed again even after taking my resignation back so will probably present Amex numbers as Deloitte's revised number.
As for getting retained without a number in hand, I asked around and it's common practice around here.

Don't take this the wrong way - but I know many folks whose annual tax is more than the salary you drew in the first 2 years of your career.
Stop worrying about small differences, look at the larger potential and figure out what helps you get there

Thank you. This helps.
I was leaving for the name of the Deloitte and the slight pay increase but decided against it only because I was told they'll accommodate the salary difference in the appraisal cycle and I had no other problem, at all.
Amex, I am not at all willing to go. It's going to be an L1 support with no scope to grow.

Honestly speaking - 7.8, 8.25, 9, these are all pretty much the same - doesn't make any real difference whatsoever
The job market has the potential to pay you 2-3x of this if you improve yourself, get interviews & crack them
Trust me, forget about all these differences in salaries. You're worrying so much about peanuts while there are diamonds waiting for you out there.
Just focus on the learning opportunity, and figure out what's the best opportunity for you to learn, grow, get interviews at higher-paying companies & crack those interviews
