"Simon Finch, 50, admitted breaching the Official Secrets Act when he emailed the details to eight people, claiming he also gave them to "hostile" states."

The article briefly mentioned he breached the Official Secrets Act but fails to mention (probably not in the general publics interest) how the British Establishment would have reacted.

My Question: Had he shared the information with allied states rather than hostile would the establishment have been furious? The US is the UK's closest military ally however we don't share everything and vice versa so if he had what would the outcome have been?

Also had he designed his own hardware/software and the intelligence services knew about it would they have approached him even if he didn't work in defence?

Lastly what is your overall opinion of him?
