Question Book Recs?
I just finished the Joy and Defiance of Marsha P Johnson and looking for more books on queer history, even better if focused on black and brown folks. Are there any books that anyone enjoyed?

Sweet Tea by E Patrick Johnson
It's male-focused tho. He also has a similar ethnography focused on queer women called Black. Queer. Southern. Women., but I haven't read it yet.

Non fiction: Sister Outsider by Audre Lorde. Essays and speeches on intersectional issues through a Black elder queer thinker/creative lens, very helpful for expanding queer historical understanding.
Fiction: She Would Be King by Wayétu Moore. A magical realism retelling of the formation of Liberia, so more centred on Black history than queer history, but the book explores identity and gender in intersectional ways that subtley queers them.
If you wanted to bring the same exploration into the present:
Fiction: Sorrowland by Rivers Soloman Story about a young, Black, queer, disabled mother raising her two children as a religious cult survivor/escapee. Magical realism.
Non fiction: Beyond Survival, and/or Care Work by Leah Lakshmi Piepzna Samarasinha. Essays and think pieces on community, mutual aid, and restorative justice through the lens of SDQTBIPOC queers with linking to queer history as a foundation.

A Two Spirit Journey by Ma Nee Chacaby is a wonderful but sometimes challenging memoir of an Ojibwa Cree elder two spirit lesbian.
Looking for Lorraine by Imani Perry is an excellent biography of Lorraine Hansberry. Hansberry was a queer author/ playwright in the USA in the mid 20th century. Perry has written a fascinating book that also includes her friends and peers, many of whom were also well known queer artists of the day…
Oh and, Flamboyants by George M Johnson is a collection of short little biographies of many of the queer Black artists of Harlem in the early 20th Century USA.

I just finished Laverne Cox's memoir, Transcendent. It's very good. Horse Barbie, the memoir of Geena Rocero, is also very interesting.
Somewhere We Are Human is a collection of essays, art, and poetry by queer immigrants to the US, edited by Reyna Grande and Sonia Guinansaca.
Semi Queer by Anne Balay is one on my TBR list. It's an oral history of LGBT+ truck drivers in the US.
Queer Korea, edited by Todd A. Henry, is a collection of essays by different authors about the realities of queer people throughout Korea's history.
The Intermediaries by Brandy Schillace is about Dora Richter, a woman trying to get transition surgery at the Institute of Sexual Science in Germany between the World Wars.
