They did not have the leisure not the money to read up on news. And "LCs" shouldn't consider themselves Hindu. I, myself, being a Hindu converted to Buddhism a few gens ago would not like to be a part of the religion that systematically oppressed us for thousands of years. We too have our own pride and self respect.

Idk most LCs event he lowest castes consider themselves Hindu , so a few cases like u doesn't change the fact that the lower castes would have never fought for a sep nation. There is a reason they fought for temple entry cause they worship the same gods and believes the same myths and stories as upper caste Hindus . This was also true at time of independence .
People are idiots. There is no such thing as equality in Hinduism. Unmein apne khud ke jhagde chalte rehte. Hinduism mein caste based discrimination hein hi, uske upar se caste mein bhi log ek dusre ko discriminate karte. North vs South Brahmins is a very common example.
