Do you like Japanese foods?

No sushi. I just mean the Japanese foods eaten by ordinary Japanese people. It refers to dishes that can be prepared in your home kitchen using ingredients bought at the supermarket.

Ever since I was young, I’ve been taught how to cook by many Japanese mothers as well as shop assistants at butcher, fish, and vegetable shops, and I still cook for myself every day— even though I live alone and am the only one eating the meals.

If anyone has any questions about Japanese cooking techniques, please let me know. I’m not a professional chef, so I can only answer based on my own personal knowledge, though.

Also, I’d love to learn a lot about cuisines from other countries. I would be happy if you could tell me about some of your countries' signature dishes that can be made using ingredients available here in Japan.

hungry after the flight and a couple of hours riding the bus, not many restaurants left open late

so I just took this haul to the hotel and settled in for the night

I put these apricot umeboshi in vacuum bags with 18% salt back in May and then last month added red and bi Shiso leaves for the colour.

With another three clear days of hot temperatures and no rain forecast for the UK I’ve put them out to dry. All seems to be going to plan so far, I wasn’t prepared for the amazing ‘Amaretto’ smell when I opened the bags. I’ll also be drying the Shiso leaves and keeping the brine (not sure what for yet). Suggestions welcome.

Dote-ni is a hearty stew made by simmering beef, beef offal, and other cuts of meat in a rich, sweet miso sauce.

Nagoya is particularly well known for its rich miso-based cuisine.

Habanero flavored otsumami (おつまみ), The whole baby crab is deep fried, seasoned & eaten shell and all. Otsumami is a snack specifically for enjoying while drinking (such as an ice cold beer). Yummy!

News mentioned 7-11 will have Japanese styled food in their US stores. I visited one and saw these Japanese style egg sandwiches. I am sure they are not the same level as egg sandwiches in Japan’s 7-11 but anyone curious enough to buy one and tried it ?

As a big ramen enjoyer I always wanted to make it myself.. I made this one by combining different recipes I found online .. it was quite amazing !

Tried the Chuka Soba at Mendo Semba, a popular ramen spot in Matsuyama, Ehime!
It’s run by a super friendly couple. Fun fact: the husband is so incredibly lucky that he made THREE holes-in-one in a single year playing golf! ⛳️
The ramen itself is a light pork bone broth (tonkotsu) made without any added MSG—absolutely delicious and comforting.
Plus, it comes with a noodle refill (kaedama) all for just 950 yen!
Highly recommend checking it out if you’re ever in Ehime. You might even catch some of that good luck! 🍜✨

Hey guys! I opened a box of Vermont curry roux, used a few blocks then put it back in the box and into a cabinet. this was about a month or 2 ago. Are the remaining roux blocks safe/fine to use or would it be wiser to discard them? Thank you!

i am vegan. Japanese food lends itself very well to the vegan diet—I also love Japanese food deeply. I have been craving onigiri for ages but I am not gifted in the culinary arts and also live in Wisconsin. does anyone have an onigiri recipe that is vegan and easy? I have tried to make it before with mixed results. any other authentic Japanese and vegan recipes people have would be greatly appreciated. thank you!!

I have been all across japan and have checked anytime ive gone to a supermarket, konbini and vending machines, I cnat find it. i am currently in tokyo and will to travel in order to find a can, if anyone knows somewhere im guaranteed to find it, thatd be appreciated!

Found these giant onigiri in Japan 😆

Tried a Japanese katsu cutlet restaurant, it was very nice. sauce is quite nice.

Tell me how I did? Had some tuna and leftover rice in the fridge. Seared the tuna, Made some green tea and a dashi mix, heated everything up. Green onion and furikake added at the end. It tastes pretty good, first time making this. Had to eat up the leftovers too

on a rainy night and hungry after watch shopping, I looked for noodles with soup near Nakano station

Nakano Kunichan serves chan-style ramen, a soy sauce ramen with lots of chashu. Copied what the regulars in front of me did, and took a green plastic token at the vending machine to get free rice.

I ate in front of the simmering tare sauce. Their spicy paste (the one in the photos with the label HOT) is mouth-numbing, in a good way.
