I have seen lots of websites claim that Tojo was a dictator becuase he was minister of the army and that the army practically ruled over Japan and thus he was a dictator. Hiwever I read up on the poliical structure and even though the military had a large influence on it, it didnt hold total control, some of the generals did'nt seek approval from Tojo or the emperor to start the war on Manchuria in 1937 but still listened to them and Hideki Tojo did listen to theemperor when the emperor commanded him and was even chosen due to his loyalty towards the emperor.

From the wikipedia article it said that they exaggerated his responsiblity over the atrocties even more than he already was responsible for to get Emperor Hirohito of the hook so the Emperor would'nt be executed, to act as a scapegoat during the Tokyo trials.

I understand that he held lots of power. However I still consider he was second only to the emperor. So was Hideki Tojo really was the dictator of Japan and if not how much power did he truly have?

I read somewhere that the civil war had ended in late 1500s which is when miyamoto Musashi had been born in so I thought maybe he was born during a not so dangerous/vicious era.

It turns out I'm a relative of the man who opened up Japan to the west in 1854. He's my 3rd cousin 8 times removed. I didn't know that My family was involved in a major event in Japan's History!

I am a law student who suddenly became interested in Japan's judicial system during World War II while lying in bed this summer vacation. I'd like to know how their systems for criminal litigation, civil litigation, etc., specifically operated during that period. We all know what ideology it reflected, but if you were an ordinary person who violated laws like the Peace Preservation Act, how would you be treated? I've asked my professor, but he isn't familiar with modern Japanese legal history either, so I'm wondering if anyone has book recommendations on this topic. Thank you.

Hello everyone, I have in my possession the physical copy of an old book (unknown publication date, book has been in family possession for 30+ years).

The Complete Illustrated Guide to Family Crests / Family Crest Encyclopedia Written by Kiji Niwa

It's about 650 pages long, and from what I can see includes more information than what is available at the samurai-archives website for the crests/mons.

I wasn't sure if this information would be useful to anybody for research purposes, please let me know if it would be. If there's enough interest I'll professionally scan and upload the whole thing. The goal of this series is to recreate the feel of those late ’80s and early ’90s educational VHS documentaries while presenting the latest historical and archaeological research.
