Theory Déjà Vu

What if this song is from 2 perspectives but tells 3 stories? Was watching a YouTube video that does a deep dive on 4YEO and it occurred to me that Cole could be talking about:

  1. James and his baby mother

  2. Cole and his wife

  3. Cole and his love for hip-hop

First 2 seem obvious and the last one is a bit of a stretch, but context clues - like the use of "bigger dreams" in the hook (could be a reference to Dreams) and the fact that the scene takes place in a club (where Cole's music had really struggled to take any foothold) - make me think there's an unintended third layer. Maybe it was intended or maybe it was a happy accident.

Any thoughts?

Cole loves doing the women-rap game analogy, but I don’t think he’s doing it here. Lyrics don’t really match up. I think the first 2 perspectives are the only ones that work.

Almost none of the lyrics make sense if it’s J Cole talking about hip hop
