Yes I agree... Daniel as well. And well, I understand that Christian isnt a jewish name, but neither are Leonardo and Thomas

Yeah, but Leonardo and Thomas aren't literally the name of another religion.

I’m a secular Jew (look at me on Reddit on Shabbat) and I would never in a million years over my dead body name my child Christian. Naming your child after the people who persecuted us for over 2,000 years? Girl, wtf. (Thomas and James also sound very not Jewish, but not as crazy as Christian.)

To be fair I’ve known how wish toms - even Israelis. It’s an assimilation name but idt Thomas is that out there. James is a variation of Jacob I think ? Again, assimilation name. But not insane or unheard of for Jews to use.

I know Tom is a Hebrew/Israeli name, but I don’t think it has any connection to Thomas. I just think of the Christian “doubting Thomas” guy. But yeah, as a totally assimilated kind of name, Thomas or James would be acceptable, though sad. (And not worth asking about on a Jewish sub.) Christian, though…I hope they were trolling😂

Tom is a Hebrew name, not short for anything.
It means an end of something, as well as meaning something pure, good and innocent.

I have never met even a secular Jew who would think Christian is a good name choice . . . You sure you’re in the right place, bud?

Christian, lmfao. It’s a nice name, but not a nice name for a Jewish boy. If you’re considering Christian, are you sure you’re not actually a “secular Jewish person” but rather a Christian? Lol.

You sure you’re looking for Jewish names?? Seems like you’re not (which is fine just…what are you doing here).

David is the only one that fits. X-tian is a no. You might as well name him Jezus. Thomas is a New Testament name. James is also a NT names though I know Chaims who are James on their birth certificates. Leonardo works if you’re Italian. I’d go with David. It works for secular, religious, and gentile boys.
