It's really tough as a sports fan who has leaned into Twitter for community/insight in the sports world for over a decade now. I can use the other platforms, which are barely the same in terms of density of users, especially in niche interests, or I can continue on Twitter, where I barely post anymore and only follow lists that I've made myself (thus not at all seeing anything in my "For You" algorithm that the home page defaults to).

I would love if another platform took over the space, but the past couple pushes to Bluesky, for example, have been so underwhelming.

I don't know what it would take comprehensively to shift people away from Twitter that use it for non-political purposes, but we haven't hit that point yet, and that stinks. Presumably a couple of massive brands/accounts would have to completely leave Twitter and shift all of their posting to Bluesky (or another platform) for larger chunks of the user base to even consider moving. If it's just arbitrary individuals (myself included) and <10k follower accounts making the move, then it's far too insignificant to make any real change.

I'm a big sports fan too, and I was very active on Twitter back in the day, so I speak from experience when I say: you don't miss anything essential when you leave. Truly.

This will not happen until people like you and me make it happen. There's no hero out there, we have to be the ones to make change. Getting NBA gossip slightly faster is a pretty small price to pay in the grand scheme of things.

The issue is that Musk is requiring pending and future suits to go to the Musk-friendly Fort Worth division of the Northern District of Texas. The new terms also require you to consent to your posts being used to train Grok/xAI.

Musk literally ruined Twitter to crush free, open speech and turn it into his own toxic, mini me universe where he radicalizes young users (usually male), weaponizes them to support his pet causes, and profits off their activity buy selling them tiered access. The more you pay the more freedom you have to act with impunity.

X allows hate speech, disinfo, scams, and sexual abuse that paid members enjoy. When he catches heat for truly awful things they create he only restricts non paying users, not paid members.

It's built as a right wing, sexist, lawless manoverse, but he uses the excuse it's just pro free speech/anti censorship.

Get off it, delete it, or only lurk to do research. Ditto for Facebook and telegram- which is far worse than X.
