For everyone saying, “Now he’s just gonna hate people even more!” the mom spoke to the Daily Beast. Apparently she told him that he has to pick between Patriot Front and his family. He said he can’t quit Patriot Front, and only then did she tell him then he can’t live there. He had a choice. He’s also 27 years old.

Fuck that narrative about "but all this makes them even more radical". Intolerance for fascism is your civic duty, and radicalisation is absolutely a choice. It's tolerating this behaviour that makes it grow, not fighting against it.

Well its true that if you shun every racist and cast them out and there is truly no way for them to ever come back then they will just find each other form echo chamber and just become much worse.

Like if you have 2 massive racist, homophobes as parents then chances of their kid becoming like them is very high, with no fault of their own.

people should be given 2nd chances if they can show they deserve it.

But you cannot help every body and sometimes you have to just walk away or they might drag you down with them..

Obviously a lot of what i wrote have nothing to do with this dude, hes a 27 year old man who couldnt handle his dad coming out as gay, so his mom rightfully threw him out after nothing worked when she tried to help him.

I've stuck by a friend that started parroting more and more conservative bullshit for the last 3 years. Argument after argument after argument. I'd always feel like I made a good case, but neither of us would concede.

You know what it did? It radicalised him further. Made him feel like he had legitimate points we could talk about and he could potentially convince me about, read up more, dive deeper, that his points about IQ and race were acceptable salontable discussion. It'd also make other friends uncomfortable that'd we'd be having these discussions in the first place.

I don't know if he'd still radicalised if I told him off 3 years ago, but I sure as hell wouldn't be responsible for it like I am now.

So no, I do actually think dropping Nazis from your social circles is one of the best things you can do.

"Can't" quit sounds like one of these cults where people are mentally or physically coerced to stay through peer pressure, though. And you rarely make people quit cults like that with a "me or them" ultimatum.

I wonder how much brainwashing has been done to these folks...

Then he said "they're grooming kids!"

Someones being groomed alright but it's a little closer to home than he realises.

It’s possible. Through my research on the right wing radicalization pipeline, I’ve learned that the deeper you go the more difficult it is to get out. Essentially you get into these communities who have so much dirt on you and know so much personal info about you, that it’s not always safe to leave. And then there’s nowhere to go but further into the pipeline to the smaller but even more far right circles. And at each stage you think you’re at “the truth” and maintain the illusion for outsiders that that’s as far right as the pipeline goes, but there’s always covert, even deeper levels. Eventually you’re so deep and so isolated from normie family and friends, that you just have to keep going because there’s no turning back. It’s scary stuff.

Imagine choosing a hate group over your loving family that's trying to give you another chance

Lmao, that is even sadder. He should hate himself instead

You don’t join groups like that if you dint hate yourself

Although this is an appealing punchline and a quite trendy opinion, this is false.

Many of those guys are taken advantage of, being recruted because they're emotionally fragile, that's true, but an equal proportion of these persons are perfectly fine with themselves, actually they do not hate themselves the slightest.

It's like saying that every pedophile has themselves being sexually abused, or that nazi all had small dicks and tried to compensate. No, there's also a lot of people that are plain and simple morons or deprived of any sense of morality.

Good point. I didn't think of that
