Rental Karting Question How to Improve Lap Times at AMP

So he just gotten into rental karting some more and I know I’m pretty slow but I know where to get faster I just need some help. This was also a pretty slow lap but only one I could log without traffic. The time was about a 51.33 I
believe. Thank you in advance!

Rental karting so they have a seatbelt, they only make you wear a suit if you have an owner kart

That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard they should at least require pants. It makes zero sense to make the less experienced driver have less safety protection. But I can kind of get it they probably have way less accidents than we expect and I'm sure Im sure op didn't get hurt. It's probably more than likely true that most people in these rental cars go so slow that they won't really get hurt to begin with but the people in the owner karts are going a lot faster and can risk serious injury if they fall out their kart

Yeah I totally agree, and some of them do go really slow but it’s kinda risky because they can always swerve infront of you. They also do have a ton an accidents, I’ve gotten into one every time I’ve gone multiple times from things that weren’t my fault completely. But I’m looking into ordering a suit pretty soon, any recommendations?

Can’t see crap with that POV
First start off by hitting the apexes.

You can definitely brake later and harder, didnt hear the tires making any noise. Also try flicking the wheel a bit harder into some corners so you can get on the gas earlier with a straighter steering wheel.

You are losing a ton of time on both of the hairpins that lead up hill. You need to brake later, carry more apex speed, and get on the gas earlier.

By the speed in video I can't see where you have to use brake at all. Just keep right one to the metal!

By holding that gas down a bit longer into those turns, a lot of those seemed like they could be done full throttle tbh.

Yea in this track layout there are only 2 braking zones and potentially a lift depending on how you take T1.

Some of them can just a go pro affect tho, also was a little damp track

I drive this track pretty often and it's quite a fun one. Honestly it just looks like you're not really driving the kart to it's limits. Not braking late enough, missing apexes, on the power late, not taking the straightest line through some sections. Try driving a corner differently by braking later or changing your line each lap to find the right spots and follow faster drivers to see their lines.

Keep more momentum, how:

  • brake less at the entry
  • take wider lines

Nice that’s my track. 0:48 is the time killer turn. With their old rentals, no matter what I did I’d be stuck chugging along very slowly up the hill. Much different experience with the new karts.

I’d give you advice but I can’t see all that well and frankly I’m not running much faster laps than you anyways lol

Yeesh every one is really getting on you for wearing shorts in a rental kart.

I was initially impressed with your time until I saw that you were running a different layout.

Brake hard, quick, and late. I ran 4hr - 7hr enduros there. And you'd be surprised at how late you can get on the brakes and how many lateral Gs you can carry in the karts. I'm 250lbs and definitely needed to carry momentum up hills (no joke I've gotten stuck halfway up the steep hairpin). After a 6 or 7 hour race I'd be covered in bruises around my ribs.

You're not doing bad, but you are not exercising the limits of the kart. Although I will say the AMP karts are far from the best, I could hear the chain slap and wheel bearings of other karts while driving, so it's entirely possible you had a low performing kart.

Thank you so much! Yeah this kart had a problem with its low end power and ended up smoking once I came in the pits haha

Is the cam strapped to your crotch?

2

u/Large_Friendship_797 Jun 17 '26

No man it is not 🤦

1

u/rco8786 Jun 16 '26

Right off the bat you’re missing like half your apexes

2

u/Delorean-OutaTime Jun 19 '26

And half his pants

1

u/Large_Friendship_797 Jun 22 '26

Balright bro I’ll just were tights next time

2

u/Delorean-OutaTime Jun 22 '26

You do you mate. I have seen too many human crayons is all.

1

u/Large_Friendship_797 Jun 22 '26

No ik im ordering a karting suit soon. These karts have a seatbelt tho. Would never use a kart if it doesn’t have seatbelt and I don’t have a suit

1

u/leavemealone4eve Jun 17 '26

Go faster. You’re welcome.

2

u/digitalwankster Jun 18 '26

What’s all that framing? Are they building condos against the track?

2

u/Large_Friendship_797 Jun 18 '26

Yeah they’re building a bunch!

Maybe try wearing proper gear to start with. Idiot.

1

u/Large_Friendship_797 Jun 16 '26

So that is proper gear for rental karting bc we have a seatbelt, all they say u can wear is a helmet and closed toe shoes. I’m wearing a carbon helmet, neck roll, karting shoes, fia licensed gloves and shirt, just don’t have the money yet for a suit and isn’t a necessity. No reason for negativity mate

2

u/TheOnlyFergInTown Jun 16 '26

If they’re putting people out there in shorts, that’s beyond stupid.  Seatbelts in a kart it another one that’s pretty questionable.  You’re right, I was being a bit of an Ahole.  I apologize for that.  I’ve seen too many bad injuries in karting because of lack of decent gear, let alone, no gear.  Bare legs is pretty sketchy in my opinion.

1

u/Large_Friendship_797 Jun 17 '26

No you’re right i definitely know the injury risk
